• About the role

As an MOT Tester, you will safely prepare our customers’ vehicles for the road. You will attend to every detail and take pride in doing a meticulous job. Above all, you'll want to be part of a capable and motivated team who think the same way. You'll have the opportunity to work with an incredible variety of manufacturers and models, develop your skills and keep up to date with the latest in vehicle technology.

• Essential skills

- A certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance Level 3 and solid work experience in the automotive industry.

- A full driving licence

- The ability to work competently and efficiently on your own or as part of a busy team.

- Strong communication skills

- Good attention to detail

- The ability to carry out work to high standards and to deadlines.

- A proactive and enthusiastic approach

- The ability to accurately follow written and spoken instructions.

• Daily duties

Perform services, repairs and maintenance to high standards.

Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to accurately diagnose problems, using computer-based diagnostic equipment.

Repair or replace broken or faulty parts and resolve defects.

Carry out DVSA vehicle tests (if authorised)

Test vehicles on the road to check repairs

Maintain equipment and ensure tools are in good condition.

Experience Required:

• Minimum 2 years as an HGV Mechanic (preferred)

• HGV Level 3

• DBS (preferred but not essential)

Job Specification:

• Conducting inspections, service routines, and repairs

• Diagnosing and troubleshooting faults in various vehicles

• Completing vehicle safety inspections to the highest standards

• Contributing to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop environment

• Preparing vehicles for MOT and presentation for testing

• Ensuring personal and team safety while minimizing the risk of injury and vehicle damage

• Ordering and sourcing vehicle parts, managing emails, word processing, and conducting web-based searches.

• Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.

What You'll Do

You'll perform light duty work as an intermediate-level auto tech. You'll improve your skills in a supportive environment. Other responsibilities include:

• Gain familiarity with auto maintenance concepts and practices.

• Perform auto maintenance tech duties, including oil and filter change, fuel filter change, transmission flush, spark plugs and vehicle inspection.

• Perform battery testing, maintenance and replacement and testing and repairing of starting and charging electrical systems.

• Perform various repairs including tires, safety inspections and interior/exterior components.

• Diagnose and repair brake systems, steering and suspension systems.

• Perform an evacuation and recharge on the AC system.

• Perform maintenance on equipment.

• Utilize approved vendors to obtain parts.

• May up fit new vehicles with necessary equipment

• Complies with applicable procedures and regulations regarding recyclables, fluids, tires, and disposable trash.
  

Who You Are

You're a quick learner - especially when it comes to cars and how they work. You're a team player who always arrives at the shop ready to provide excellent work. You also have the following qualifications:

Required:

• 1 or more years of related work experience.

• The ability to drive standard, automatic and electric vehicles.

• Safe drivers needed; valid driver's license required
  

Preferred:

• A high school diploma or GED

• Current ASE Certifications: G1, A4, A5 status when required by leadership.

USD 19.57 - 29.38 per hour

Compensation:

Hourly base pay rate is $19.57 - $29.38/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.
