I smell squirrel
Flora meets a strange boy called William Spiver, he says he has temporary blindness by trauma. He says " I smell squirrel" (pg.56). They then remember the squirrel.
Chapter 18
A scientific adventure
Tootie tells Flora's mother that she can bring back the squirrel to the wild "the backyard" instead they bring him into Tootie's house. They bring to the computer to type something.
Chapter 19
The inadvertent I
Ulysses looks out the window and sees a picture of a woman and a man floating on a city. The squirrel thinks about the beautiful green grass and the wonderful blue sky and Flora's round head. So he writes the letter I.

Chapter 20
What it said
On the computer it was written.
"I love your round head
the brilliant green
the watching blue,
these letters,
this world,you
I am very, very hungry."
(pg.65)

Chapter 21-26
Ch.21 Poetry
Tootie Tickham has fainted due to the fact that Ulysses writes poetry. William Spiver doubts Ulysses's poetic talents. He tells Flora that the world is a random place. Flora wants William Spiver to take off his classes. He won't. She thinks he is Ulysses's arch-nemesis because every super hero has one. She's about to take off his glasses to find out who he truly is when her mother calls her. He father is here to take her for a day. She tells W.S that the universe is a random place.

Chapter 22 The giant ear
Flora thought that her father was the loneliest man in the uiverse. Phyllis and George shout at one another. Flora becomes rebellious against her mother. She is not going to give up to Ulysses. The Criminal Element tells her to become a Giant Ear and listen very carefully. She is astonished to what she hears.

Chapter 23.
Enter the Villain
Flora's mother, Phyllis, order George, Flora's father, to put the squirrel out of his misery because he is diseased. She wants George to put him in a sack, hit him over the head with a shovel, dig a hole with the shovel, and bury him."Flora misunderstood that she had made a mistake in thinking that William Spiver was anybody important."(pg.75). Phyllis Buckham was the arch nemesis.

Chapter 24 Stalked, Chased, Threatened, Poisoned Etc.
"He should have been shocked but he wasn't , not really"(pg.76). Many dangerous actions had occured to Ulysses such as he was shot with a BB gun, slingshots, his tail was run over by a pickup truck, he was poisoned, etc. He's really not surprised by this announcement. He's thinking of poetry because Tootie told him he had written poetry. Flora told him that the malfeasance will be stopped.

Chapter 25 Seal Blubber
"Nothing was as it seemed" because Flora's mother gave he a shoe box with a comfy blanket to put Ulysses in for the car ride. As they were pulling out of the driveway, Tootie yells to stop the car. Flora was in a hurry, so she tells her father to keep going. She thinks, "there was a murder stop, a superhero mentor, villains ti vanquish, darkness to eradicate"(pg.79). The father stops the car and introduces to Tootie and William Spiver. Spiver apologizes to Flora for not taking off his glasses, but then tells her, They've been glued to my head by evil forces beyond my control"(pg 81).
He feels teh whole world will unravel if he takes them off. Flora whispers to W.S that Ulysses's arch nemesis is her mother. Tootie tells Ulysses she is moved by his poetry, and he feels very proud. Tootie reads Rilke and Ulysseses eyes shine. "Flare up like flame" exclaims George who says they must be on there.W.S is worried that they won't return and Flora tells him that she isn't going to the South Pole. Then she thinks about Terrible Things Can Happen to You, and how people can survive on eating seal blubber. They finally leave as W.S waves in the wrong direction.

Chapter 26 Spies don't Cry
Flora thinks her father would make an excellent spy because he side steps questions or responds with questions of his own. He started to cry when Phyllis talks about getting a divorce, and Flora thinks that spies don't cry, but still. Flora interrogates her father about burying something when he decides they should go to lunch.

I also like the part where the squirrel types squirtel."Squirtel, I am ulysses born anew"(pg.44) Also, when Flora's mom names a lamp Mary.

My favorite part is that the author puts comic strips in the middle of the book at some moments.

My favorite character in the book is Ulysses. The reason why is because I usually like the animals in the books like if it was a book about a horse I would like the horse.
Also Ulysses is shown alot in the book and I don't usually like the main characters i like the secondary characters and Ulysses thinks about funny things like if he gets sucked up in a vacuum cleaner all he thinks about is how hungry he is. " As the vacuum cleaner roared toward him, he did not (for instance) think, Here at last, is my fate come to meet me!
He did not think, Oh please, give me one more chance and I will be good.
What he thought was Man, I sure am hungry."
