Those that sought the fortunes of the frontier were no longer british or irish or german. They were american frontiersmen about to embark on a journey of a new life. The frontier is commonly idealisted to a point of absurdity. This selfmade man/positiv outlaw, is a point of inspiration for many americans, and is closely connected to the modern liberal ideas of the modern era. Many republican voters and politicians romanticise the frontier time period as an argument for the very hands off approach of government. The entire time period is driven by manifest destiny.
