They are there for each other.  The fellow workers state, "Never mind, brother," they said. "What happens to one of us, happens to all." (Head, 69-70) The workers are so attached to each other that they have become family. They even call each other 'brother'. (Grandin, 9-11)  It shows how the cat is always waiting for her to get home.  The human and pet bond in this story is immense.  Animals will cheer you up when you are feeling down.  "Animals are very sensitive to body language." It links with special bonds between us, by having strong bonds with family and friends. Juan tries to save Mariana from a bad letter he carelessly sent.  He needed to censor that letter because it had compromising information, "all this time the freedom, maybe even the life, of both sender and receiver is in jeopardy." (Valenzuela, 19-21).  Juan would do anything for Mariana. Juan ended up paying the ultimate price. He censored his letter to Mariana  because it would of risked Mariana's life. He knew he had to protect her if it was the last thing that he did.
