Visual hallucinations-People may see dark figures that either stare at the person, talk to the person, or even try to kill the person suffering from schizophrenia. Audial hallucinations-People may hear voices that are threatening, or downing, and these voices appear very life-like to the person suffering from schizophrenia. These hallucinations result from a misfire of neurons in the brain that cause brain waves to go haywire and the hallucinations have no connection with the outside world. .

According to the text, the most common hallucination is hearing voices that are not there, but merely inside of the suffer's brain. People suffering from schizophrenia may also feel, taste, or smell things that are also considered hallucinations, but are less common compared to visual and audial hallucinations. These voices a schizophrenic person may hear can also lead that person into committing violent crimes. These are considered "command hallucinations."

Researchers are using brain imaging to track and measure the "folds" seen in brains, as well as using a "radioactive sugar solution" to see which parts of the brain are absorbing and using in each area. The scans are able to show the abnormality found in schizophrenic brains. Researchers also use the "stress-vulerability model" to better understand psychotic disorders, and will, hopefully, one day advance into a cure

People who suffer from schizophrenia have a severe impact on their emotions as they may feel as if they cannot relate to other people or the world, lack motivation, and feel empty in a emotional and intellectual aspect, and may feel as if they struggle to keep in touch with reality. This can result in the person suffering into committing suicide. Schizophrenic brains, according to research with the use of advanced technology, respond poorly to emotions as compared to a normal brain.
