Listening to her speak in poetry in Zapotec, it is such a beautiful sounding language with a cadence and flow very unique from the Latin languages, and with half a million speakers, there is no reason this language should be abandoned and disregarded in the region. As Toledo said, "Spanish is gaining too much ground." Mostly, I hear about Nahuatl. I didn't know anything about Zapotec! After watching the video, I could tell that Natalia was talking about very personal, important parts of her life, and it seemed to mean a lot to her to express herself in Zapotec.  I learned that Zapotec is on the decline, and is being pushed out in favor of Spanish.
