Sam Harris' position on free will is that free will is merely an illusion clung to by society. When you have complete freedom to make a choice, your brain has already made a choice. We agree with him because there are always outside influences, which we can't control, affecting our choices in ways we couldn't understand.

Harris believes that free will is scarce more than a construct of the human mind and is in reality all a product of our environment and biology. Half of our group believes that Sam Harris' position is correct and that free will is indeed an illusion. The others believe that while we are largely persuaded by our environments, but it is up to us to decide what we do with those stimuli and what course we take.

The meaning of life is that which we infuse it with. We agree that our decisions are affected by past events and our environment, but we also believe that we have the free will to choose, and that our futures are not entirely predetermined.

Sam Harris asserts that free will is an illusion; humans do not have the conscious ability to make decisions by themselves. He argues that past experiences greatly influence our unconscious mind. Our group believes qualifies his belief; it's difficult to believe that humans have ultimate freewill. The neuroscientist states that our brain has already made a decision milliseconds before acting upon that decision.
