Ariya House

This month the staff have been extra responsive to a situation in which a service user spent a prolonged period in hospital. The team were responsive to the individual's health needs, ensuring that the NEWS 2 checks were completing promptly which meant that the individual got the help they needed quickly. Staff also used their resourcefulness to ensure that the service user received good support whilst in hospital, transporting their wheelchair up so that they were able to mobilise more during their stay, and offering the sleep room out to close relatives visiting the individual who don't live nearby. Plenty of staff offered to visit the service user, even in their own time, in order to cheer them up.

Clifton Court

Staff at Clifton Court have been investing their time and energy into making service user sketchbooks a well established therapeutic practice in the service. This started as a place for service users to express themselves, however for some it has developed into a resource to be used in other areas, for example one service user has found it useful to tie in their sketchbook work with their speech and communication goals.

Staff have been encouraging another service user to have a more active role in the service to help to give them more of a sense of purpose. They have been watering the plants, working with staff to complete Health and Safety checks, and just being an extra pair of hands!

Elizabeth House

There has been some great work done between staff and a service user's family members over the last couple of months at Elizabeth House. A service user, who moved in at Christmas, has a very supportive family who have become accustomed to being the primary source of care, support and rehab for the individual. As a result, they have at times found it challenging to relinquish this role to staff. In response to this, the Elizabeth House team set up a meeting in which the family was thoroughly informed about the rehabilitation structure, and the family was also given their own set of practices and goals by therapists, as well as providing some training, so that they could be working on them with their loved one, to work in conjunction with staff. This has led to extremely positive outcomes in the individual's latest MDT review.

SLS

Staff went the extra mile for one of our service users whose close family member suffered a series of falls recently. The incidents involved the fire brigade and the individual was understandably shaken by this. In response, one of our SLS staff members went to the relative's house to check in and see how they were doing in the aftermath of the falls, so that they could then report back to the service user, without the individual becoming too overwhelmed with the situation. Once the individual had been reassured, they were in a much better position to support their relative through this difficult time, and staff have been subsequently working with the service user on ways they can help their loved one whilst also attending to their own needs.
