On April 26, 2003, Aron Lee Ralston arrives at the Canyonlands National Park on his first day of his five-day road trip. After hours of walking around the canyons he gets his arm stuck between a big boulder and a canyon wall. On his first day being stuck, he figures that he might not survive this due to a lack of water, and because he has not told anyone where he is.

On the 6th day, Aron finds his right hand much more decomposed than he thought it would be, and he wants to separate it from his body. He twists his arm so that the bones break, then he starts cutting it off.
