What makes these mushrooms so addictive is psilocybin, and psilocybin contains psychoactive and hallucinogenic compounds that are found in the mushroom. Mushrooms are usually called "shrooms", "caps", or "Magic Mushrooms", but have many more slang names. There are 2 types of Mushrooms that people mainly use, Liberty Caps (Psilocybe semilanceata) and Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria). There are more types of mushrooms that contain the drug, but these 2 are the most commonly used out of them all. While that is happening, the world around them gets distorted. Objects look like something else, colors seem different, and some sounds may also be different as well. These are the effects that most people use mushrooms, but these are not always the case. The drug was used in ceremonies and therapies thousands of years ago in Mesoamerican societies. They were also used in ancient Greece as a medicine, but if you were found consuming or using that drug, you would get the death penalty, and you had to use them in secrecy. The mushrooms were used in ceremonies of the harvest cycle.  But these two countries weren't the only ones using the mushrooms. They have been found in rock paintings of people using them, and historians believe people used them to communicate with the gods. In the 1950's, Gordon Wasson, a banker, went on a vacation to Central America and found the Magic Mushrooms. He wrote a book about them and how they will help develop our brains and advance in technology and language. His book was titled "Seeking the Magic Mushroom" and thus, the name Magic Mushroom was born. The book caught on quickly and many people took interest of it.
