He surrounded himself around people who liked him and who were not afraid to use violence to get what they wanted in the political view. One day Hitler demanded that they would make him leader of the party if not he threatened to walk out, they soon thought about it and he later became the leader. They set up 6 extermination camps in poland which used Gas chambers. The largest of these was Auschwits-Birkenau. ~Gestapo is an acronym for the term Geheimstaatspolizei from German which means Secret State Police. They were responsible for combatting counter-espionage and criminal actions to the state and Nazi party. These "Death Marches" continued all the way to German surrender causing deaths to 250,000 to 375,000 people.
