Turbines are designed with optimal curvature so they can capture as much wind as possible. The blades serve to spin gears inside a gearbox. the blades turn slow around 16 RPM (revolutions per minute). The gears wind up, convert this motion into much faster rotation 1600 RPM. This powers the electrical generator. This generator produces usable power for the electrical grid, where it makes its way to local homes.

The Wind Vision Report saids that wind can be viable source of renewable electricity in all 50 states by 2050. The U.S. is now beginning to add offshore wind turbines which can help greatly increase the amount of wind energy we receive. With longer motors and newer gearboxes being made it allowed the turbines to increase its wind capacity factor which allows to keep energy cost low by providing the most possible power.

Factors That Effect Wind Energy

Availability is one factor that effects wind energy because it does cost fairly expensive to move and build since it is so big. It can effect the environment because their has been times where birds have been killed due to the wind turbines. However more countries are choosing this type of energy because it is way more efficient than solar because these systems use less energy, release less carbon dioxide and produce more overall energy.
