Effects of exploration

Effect on the land (map)- Alexander Mackenzie's added new geographical knowledge. He also found the true path leading from the Mackenzie River. This allowed new changes to the map.

Effect on previous knowledge-
Mackenzie's expedition added knowledge for travelers, who may come across the river.

Effect on travel-
This expedition allowed travelers more awareness of where they were going, this is due to the update on the map. This would also provide some people new trade routes. Although new trade routes may work for some people, they would not work for Alexander and his company.

Primary sources

1- The first primary source was a rock. Alexander Mackenzie marked on this rock during his exploration. This symbolizes that he was there and has the date when written. This was originally written in red paint by Mackenzie. Later on it was permanently carved by surveyors. This rock was in the westernmost part of his journey.

It gave them new knowledge on where they were going and how their surroundings were going to be. It gave the knowledge said by Alexander that there were gnats and mosquitos, they also came across rough terrain.

Changes in the map- After Alexander Mackenzie and his crew returned from their journey, they gave new information about how the map needed to be changed. The river ran into the Arctic and not the Pacific.

Changes in the impact and trade- Alexander was also on the journey to look for trade routes for the company he worked for.

Colonization

Colonization is the action of establishing control over the native people of an area. It also means they claim the land.

1- An effect of colonization is more valuable resources and trading.
Positive- It allows the native people new resources and better ideas
Negative- It may be harder for the natives to make money and get resources that were more accessible to them before.

2- Another effect of colonization is overpopulation.
Positive- There are really no positive effects of overpopulation.
Negative- It will cause damage to the environment, such as deforestation.

3- The most common impact of colonization is the spread of disease.
Positive- Disease causes people to die, making the population go down, but I wouldn't say that the death of people is a positive impact. There are really no positive impacts.
Negative- The population of the native people will decrease, due to the fact that their immune system are not built up to the widespread diseases that have been brought by the foreigners.
