It seems that half of our natural state of happiness is in our genetics, and the other half is in the way we interact with the world. And humans tend to revert to our “Base” set of un/happiness a while after an event that changed the mood state. Stress contributes to overall unhappiness of the situation, as well as personality. We can condition ourselves to different personality traits to make ourselves happier, such as meditation and “practicing” the desired trait.
Happiness is also acquired more through experiences than possessions, as experiences stand out in memory while possessions fade into the background of our lives. Exercise also can help through biochemistry releasing Endorphins into the brain. Also, good sleep can contribute to happiness.

Guidelines following sudden financial gain:
1.)	Wait a month before spending loads of money. Once you have an excess of disposable income, the irresistible need of spending it on something stupid increases. If you spend money on that gold phone charger will seem stupid and wasteful.
2.)	Plan with a financial advisor and budget your money. Falling in line with the previous guideline, you don’t want to blow your money on that golden phone charger. It’s a lot easier to curb your tendencies when you don’t have all your money at your disposal. Set it up in different accounts, have a monthly budget set up, put it in a government bond, just tie it up somehow.
3.)	Plan what you want to buy before you go, and ask at least two of your normal friends if it’s necessary before a big buy. This might be harder with online shopping. Write down what you need before you go to the store. It’s a lot easier when you don’t get distracted when going shopping, as knowing what you’re going in for helps keep you focused. If it’s possible, take a friend shopping. No, not the one who’s feeding you bad ideas, the one who’s keeping a level head through the whole event.
4.)	When shopping for something that you know nothing about, take someone who isn’t at the store that knows what you need. Store employees will make you get the more expensive option.
