Summary : The first issue discussed was said to be very upsetting to liberals. The change in Social Welfare funding had taken money away from low income families, study loans, and aid for the elderly, disabled and poor. The second issue was the spread of AIDS/HIV.
The way the second issue was approached many people  would stand behind and support. The Reagan's created a "Just Say No" to drugs campaign along with and education program called DARE. Summary : Overall, the three events discussed were very important and impactful for many people. First, when Reagan appointed three judges to the Supreme Court and they were all conservative, many didn't agree with their beliefs. Next, President Reagan didn't think that the federal government should be as involved in civil rights, and this made civil rights groups feel very alienated. That feeling they had led to many criticizing Reagan and forming new groups. Lastly, Reagan supported immigration reform so he signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act. This made it more difficult for immigrants from Mexico to enter the US illegally, and also helped undocumented immigrants already in the US gain citizenship.

Summary : During the 1988 election george H.W Bush, Reagan's vice president,  took the place of the republican candidate. He won the election by a long shot and people say it was because of his promise of "no new taxes". Though he did a lot for different communities such as passing the ADA(Americans with disabilities act) for people with disabilities, there was a financial mess. the S&L(Savings and loans crisis) which he inherited from Reagan's administration caused bankruptcy and increasing unemployment. To fix the issue, Bush & congress decided to raise taxes to help get things back to normal. Why: These events happened as Dictators in the countries slowly started to take control. The U.S. got involved and helped other countries to show how strong cooperation can really be.

Summary : The Panama dictator was voiding its national elections so the us captured him and forced him into jail. Saddam Hussein was controlling Kuwait and the us and other countries came together to get rid of him. Summary : The breakdown of economic ties that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union led to a severe economic crisis and  which was even worse than the Great Depression, Poverty and economic inequality surged between 1988–1989 and 1993–1995, with the Gini ratio increasing by an average of 9 points for all former socialist countries.

Summary : In the article about Communism Survives in Other Countries, It talked about how after the Soviet Union fell other counters that conuted on Soviet Union had trouble staying in a communist country. The countries that stayed as a communist country was; Cuba, Vietnam, North Korea, and China. Of course they had problems too like their economy or trades. In May 1989, chinese no longer wanted to be in a communist country they wanted more freedom, so they did a protests to get more freedom. At first the government of China didn't care much about it but later sent troops and tanks to kill the protesters.  - Voters in the US had been divided between Red and Blue in the year 2000, during the elections. Americans had been split due to different viewpoints on the government powers.


Summary : Americans had been divided into two different state colors in which would come to be known as Republicans and Democrats. Both in which would have different stands on the government. Republicans believed that the government size should be smaller as well as having a strong military. Summary : The Independent party was founded in 1967, and although it gained it's popularity it didn't gain enough. Majority of people are either Democrats or Republicans. Only about 30% of registered voters are Independents. Key Point: in 1994 close to midterm elections republicans decided to try to take control of the senate and house of representatives. They went at this task by proposing the 10 point plan called "the contract with america". This plan promised that if elected, Republicans would strive to balance the federal budget, combat crime, reform the welfare system, cut taxes, create jobs, and minimize lawsuits. This appealed to voters and republicans ended up controlling both senate and house for the first time since 1955. 

Who/When/Where/Why: starting in 1992 republicans, democrats, and the public fought to make change and control congress. This was for the better of the nation such as healthcare for all. 

Summary : Republicans and democrats continued to fight for control of congress. Throughout this time many legislative changes took place. But what change did happen the other party usually tried to undo. Summary : After welfare critics noticed the current welfare plan was creating poverty from "one generation to the next" so the Republicans in Congress abolished AFDC and created TANF in hoping it would make single mothers into the workforce quicker and also decrease poverty amongst generations, later Bill Clinton signed a welfare reform bill. After his success in the welfare reforming, Bill Clinton got reelected in 1996 and spent the next year working with Republicans and Democrats on the Balanced Budget Act to avoid another finance issue. The budget didn't just balance but it also ran its first surplus in 30 years making the economy grow. By 1998 it was largely driven by the new business opportunities of the Internet, it gave rise to a host of online marketers and decreased unemployment under 4% which was the lowest it has been in 30 years. Summary : In the decade of the 1990s there was the era of famine in North Korea and the epidemic of AIDS in Africa. Due to natural disasters, North Korea was left in drought and this brought starvation upon the people. The U.S. government did reach out and began to provide food for North Korea after the Soviet Union failed to do so. In Africa, there was an AIDS epidemic that broke out and George W. Bush signed a $15 billion bill over a five-year period which was supposed to help resolve the issue.
