The articles reinforced my use of learning centers/work stations and reminded me of why they are important to use.  Students should be given appropriate work that matches the standards that are being taught. In my opinion, students should have a choice during centers.  The articles mentioned having a rotation where students spend a certain amount of time at each activity.  In my experience, I don’t do this very well because sometimes my whole group lessons run longer or shorter than expected for one.  Another reason this doesn’t work for me is because some days we have speakers/assemblies/field trips etc.  I prefer to tell the students their learning center activities at the beginning of the week or unit.  The students then can choose what they work on independently as they progress through the mastery of the standard.  Students are able to work on activities at their own pace and have some choice as to their preferred activities.  Students are often able to use a group or buddy to complete some of the tasks.
