Sniffing or inhaling fumes from substances sprayed or placed into a plastic or paper bag ("bagging") ("huffing") from an inhalant soaked rag in the mouth. Inhaling from balloons filled with nitrogen oxide.   </div><div>Active ingredients vary, but most common ones are nitrous oxide, amyl nitrite, butyl nitrite, chlorohyrocarbons (aerosol spray) and hydrocarbon (solvents). The main active ingredient in inhalants are household products that can be misused as inhalants.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Yes, inhalants can be fatal.  Like most street drugs, inhalants can be deadly. Someone can  die from abusing inhalants after doing it  only once… Sudden sniffing death syndrome (SSDS) This is the most common cause of death from inhalant use. The inhalant can cause irregular heartbeats and cardiac arrest when the heart suddenly stops.<br>Short Term Effects:</div><ul><li>Slurred speech </li><li>Drunk, dizzy or dazed appearance </li><li>Inability to coordinate movement </li><li>Hostility </li><li>Unconsciousness</li><li>Rashes around the nose and mouth </li></ul><div> </div><div>Long Term Effects: </div><ul><li>Muscle weakness </li><li>Disorientation </li><li>Lack of coordination</li><li>Depression </li><li>Serious and sometimes irreversible damage to the  heart, liver, kidneys, lungs and brain </li><li>Hearing loss</li><li>Boone marrow damage </li><li>Death from heart failure or asphyxiation (loss of oxygen)</li></ul><div>  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Inhalants are also known as "laughing gas".</li><li>People often don’t realize that inhaling their fumes, even just  once, can be very harmful to the brain and body can lead to death.</li><li>The chemicals found in these products can change the way the brain works and cause  other problems in the body.</li><li>Inhalants are often among the first drugs that young adolescents use. In fact, they are one of the few classes of drugs  that are more by younger adolescent's than older ones.</li><li>Inhalants can become chronic and continue into adulthood</li><li>Research in animal models shows that toluene can affect  he brain in a way that is similar to other drugs of use .</li><li>Over 2.1  million kids, ages 12-17, have used inhalants to get high  </li><li>The high usually lasts only a  few minutes,  causing people to continue the high by inhaling repeatedly, which is very dangerous </li><li> Because inhalant abuse deaths are often attributed to other causes, no one will know for certain how many  lives are taken by inhalants abuse</li><li>Many youngsters say they  began sniffing in grade school. In fact, abuse of inhalants often begins at age  10 or 11, although children as young as six have been known to experiment with inhalants </li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>
