Make sure you watch your grades and study, particularly for Mr. Rosser's class. Everyone thinks they don't need to and then the Unit 1 test hits.... If you put in the work it's not that bad, just make sure you know the material. ;)

The deadlines for assignments/projects are very serious. YOU CAN'T SLACK OFF ANYMORE BUDDY! But don't worry, high school isn't as bad as you think it is. Just don't procrastinate. (Sorry if this comes as strong.)

It is nerve wreaking to be starting at a completely new school and having to meet new people, but I promise its not as scary as you think. From my experience high school is so much better than middle school so as long as you communicate with your teachers and stay on top of your work you'll make it. Hello from the past! You can do this. Even though it may seem like everything is against you, it isn't and you're not alone. It can be challenging but once you get the hang of it, it will be a breeze. The teachers here are amazing and don't be afraid to ask for help or something because most likely other kids might have a similar question, etc. And don't worry if you came here without any friends or something because you can always make some :)

p.s everyone here is very welcoming and actually take these tips into consideration because to we don't want you to make the same mistakes that we did. Don't be nervous, you got this, and I'm rooting for you :)

Don't be nervous when first getting to high school, its not scary as it might seem and its really cool experience. Freshman year is the most important year so, don't procrastinate, go at a steady pace and study!! studying will seriously help you with tests coming up. Just stay on top of your work, communicate with your teachers and have fun!! You'll be just fine, we know you guys can do this so, GOOD LUCK!! <3

First of all, welcome to high school! Secondly, while high school is more serious, don't stress yourself out over it. It's important that you go make some friends, maybe even join a club. Something else that's important is that relationships, whether or not you want one, are just more unneeded drama and stress. Friends however, are a good idea. They can help you with homework, and cheer you up. Hopefully. Just don't overwork yourself.

Some good advice I wish someone told me going into high school that I’m going to give you is freshman year is the most important year. It’s the year you make an impression of yourself to the admin and students around you. So what I mean is mind your business, speak to your teachers and admin with respect, keep your grades up don’t try to fix then the last week before report cards, STUDY TRUST ME, join a club or two that interest you, get yourself out there, speak your mind, meet and make friends with people in all grades not just freshman, make friend because you will be with them for the next few years, be nice to everyone even if you don’t like them, be friends with your teachers they are actually pretty cool and lastly don’t try to start drama for no reason or involve yourself in drama you are not engaged in.

Hello freshmen! While you're settling in I'm going to let you know. Learn how to study before you start taking tests. I never really learned how to study and thought I could get by. I barely passed some tests, mainly Mr. Rosser's, because I didn't properly study. Please study and use Class Companion! It'll help when you take the AP exam.

Also, have fun! And manage your time well. Don't think you're obligated to take all AP classes, just have fun and do what's best for you and your mental health.

Welcome to your first year at Comm Arts! I'm guessing you're probably scared, anxious or nervous out of your mind. Here's some coming from two students from class of 2026. The first day you'll probably be freaking out but don't worry it's normal! We suggest you get out of your comfort zone and talk to new people because who knows, they might be your new best friend for the next 4 years. Get to know your teachers! They're there to help you and trust us, they don't bite :) Keep up with your work and don't fall behind especially if you do extracurriculars. Don't be afraid to talk to the upperclassmen, we promise we're nice!

I know it might seem like everything is terrifying or you might have nobody you know and all your friends have split apart, but you WILL make new friends. You'll meet a lot of people that can help you not feel alone on your journey, and it's okay to feel nervous, and just know you're not alone.
Communicate with your teachers! There could be a lot on your plate, but with the help of teachers, everything is way easier. I can't stress enough how important it is to talk with your teachers when you don't understand. It's not embarrassing to ask about a question you might know. (And plus, they probably won't remember the time if you were nervous about asking a question.)
Grades! They are way, way more important now because every single thing counts. Not to freak you out, but if I was an incoming freshman, I'd want to know what I'm getting myself into. Pay highly attention to Mr. Rosser's class! He's a very good teacher so there's nothing to worry about. This year you ARE going to have to study and it's very, very important. In middle school, it's easier to get away with not studying, but I'm really emphasizing how important it is that you study. A lot of the grades matter now because they are the foundation of your GPA (etc) and a lot of freshmen do forget that, and while it's easy to forget, you have to remember that it does matter.
Last message: You got this!! Highschool is so much fun with friends and it's going to be a truly memorable experience you're going to love. At times it might be difficult and you'll question "how am I going to get through this?", but just know it's apart of life and you're not alone. YOU GOT THIS! :)

So I wouldn't worry so much about not being able to understand something. It's your first year, enjoy. Make some notes for next year, so you know how to handle things. Yes, I know projects are very serious but if you start growing gray hairs, that's your sign that you're working too hard then you need to. I know you want to be successful, everyone does. But just stay on task and you'll be fine. If you need the next 9 weeks (after Christmas) to get it together then do that! If you have any doubts of you not being ready or not "smart" enough for this school, because you came from somewhere other than Briscoe or Jones. Just know you're just as good as them you just gotta work a lil harder! YOU'RE JUST AS GOOD.

It's a big transition, from Middle School to High School. Scary I'm sure. But don't worry, it's not as bad as you think. It's not all bullying and drama like the television shows might suggest. In fact, this high school is pretty dang fun! There's Turkey Fest and Earth day and Karaoke at lunch! Make sure your taking the time to enjoy everything happening around you and not just worrying about your grade. Though, grades surely are important this year. Whatever you do, whatever grades you get start to set the fondation for your GPA and your Class Rank for the rest of high school, so take it seriously. Do your best, if you don't understand something, GO TO TUTORING!!! Tutoring is one of the most helpful and important things you can do now, learn your material and seek help whenever you need it.
In Mr. Rossers class, make sure you put in the time for the vocab cards. Those 10 extra points can either make or break your grade on those tests. Plus, making them really helps the information to stick in your brain, and I swear it makes you do better on the unit tests. Plus your likely going to do better on your vocab quizzes as well if you do the vocab cards.
For Ms. V's class, go to her tutoring. She will help with whatever you need, writing, suggestions, brainstorming, whatever it is she can help. And do not, I repeat DO NOT, put off working on your assignments. She gives you plenty of time in class, and out of class, to complete the work. Use that time to make sure you make something good and then refine refine refine it!
I know all of this sounds scary, but its not as bad as you think. The bottom line is that you need to learn how to study and do it, do your assignments on time, don't procrastinate, and do any extra credit provided. If you do that you'll be fine. Don't worry too much! If you're worrying to the point of your mental health, then it's too much and you need to take a step back and put everything in perspective. Take time outside of school to enjoy your hobbies, whether it be sports or art or some music. Join a club or two to help make friends with the same hobbies. And overall, enjoy what's going on around you at this wonderful school! Don't worry Freshies, you got this!

Congratulations! You made it through Middle School, now everything matters. Everything that happened in middle school, forget it. You are a little fish in a big pond, there is going to be someone who is smarter, faster, better, etc. But you can outwork all of them with just determination. Keep your grades up and try your best but remember, your grades DO NOT define YOU. Good luck little dudes

When making friends don't think "everyone will like me," or "I'll have so many friends," you don't want that, I did and oh boy do I regret it. I was "friends" with everyone, But not everyone wants to be your or my friend. And don't forget you can walk away, when someone makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe then just walk away. Don't stick around people who make you feel unwanted, or just treat you bad because most likely they won't stop. Don't waste your time trying to be appealing to others who don't want to be friends with you. Forget about them, move on, and go find some awesome friends who will appreciate who you are. Not just one or two things but everything.

Some advice for you is to get involved on campus join clubs or organizations and it can be a great way to find friends. Don't start unnecessary drama with anyone. Don't bring a speaker and blast music in the hallway its annoying. Stay on top of your work it can get suffocating if you don't. Also Mr. Rossers study guides may be a lot of work but if you don't do them your grade will literally tank.

So first of all don't be scared, you can do this!!!:DDDDDD You will meet many awesome, funny, relatable and accepting people here, so no need to worry about the environment. You'll fit right in. :D Secondly put yourself out there and you will find your people. ALSO know that you will be in Advanced and AP classes, meaning you can't slack! AND YES YOU HAVE TO STUDY. Don't you worry though, there are plenty of great resources to help you get through these classes. DON"T BE AFRAID TO GO TO TUTORING! : )) You can also ask peers and friends to help you understand your assignments. There is a really great community here.
lastly remember a lot of other freshmen are just as afraid or worried about high school, its pretty huge. Know that you aren't alone in your stress or feelings. Take breaks, don't push yourself too hard, do your best and remember to enjoy your time here! Can't wait to meet you!

Hey, You're a freshman now! Some things are gonna change between middle school and high-school. Work is gonna increase in difficulty, It's normal if you don't get it at first! That is okay!! Remember that you can ask for help from parents and teachers, That's what they are here from. As things increase in difficulty so will the need to study. If you were like me in middle school, you didn't study at all. You didn't need to, but in high school you do. Now you may ask,"How do you even study for math?!" Well, you study by practicing questions! There are certain websites that write questions for you, If you search you will be able to find one for whatever subject you need! You'll have final and semester exams this year until you graduate. It's okay if you fail the semester exam, You still should study for it! And finally, Don't stress too much about grades! You just need an 80+ and you'll be fine! I do recommend that you aim for 90+ as if you forget to study for a test or forget to turn an assignment in it will keep your grades from going too low. That's all I have to say, Have fun in school and don't skip!

I would recommend making friends with everyone you can at the beginning of the year, and then find the group that fits you well. Or, you can be apart of a bunch of groups!! But please use this time to make friends so you aren't by yourself at the end of the year! :) It's a very small school, so everyone sort of knows each other. Try to stay out of drama and focus on academics and having fun!! Goodluck ! <333 :D

Hello and welcome incoming freshman!!
High School is a big change yet somewhat similar to middle school, but everything will be okay. Here's some advice from someone who made it through this new part of life. Try your best to make friends!! I know it may seem scary but at Comm, there are so many different types of people here that you will surely find a friend that you can make a good connection with! (Also, don't be scared to talk to upperclassmen. I know they may seem scary and intimidating but mostly everyone is super chill and very friendly and nice :D) another piece of advice, STUDY AND GO TO TUTORING!!! I thought that I wouldn't need to study, or go to tutoring and boy was I wrong. I didn't study, procrastinated, and didn't go to tutoring and my grades were bad because of it. Unlike middle school, your grades matter now. Along with getting good grades, join clubs and organizations! Final thing, be on good terms with your teachers! They will be your best friend sooner or later (Mr. Rosser may seem scary and strict but he will soon be Mr. Girlbosser.) Congratulations on making it to High School, good luck during the testing season, and have fun! High School has been a fun experience that i'm sure you will get to experience too!! also DO NOT use the Taft bathrooms.

High School will be a lot different than middle school. High school is where you can start learning new ways to guide others, it's where you start a whole new life, and it's where you can experience the final 4 years of school until you're off to college. Firstly, take the time to make new friends. By definition of that: be friends with someone who supports you, who doesn't use you, and who will always be by your side. I've dealt with this pain before a few times, but I'm glad I was able to realize it. My only regret is that I should've realized it sooner. Another thing, please finish your work on time. Don't procrastinate or slack off. If you don't finish your work on time, you will start to fall behind, causing a chain reaction to each and every class. Schedule a time where and when you can complete your assignments. Trust me, once you complete it, you will feel so much more relaxed and less stressed. Another thing, please don't go around off campus trying to do something you think is cool. Don't resort to peer pressure or let someone control you, because it can cost you your life. I hope my advice helped you. As long as you are productive, friendly and in control, you will succeed. There will be times where you fail, but that's part of life. As Einstein once said, "Life is like a bicycle". You'll keep on rolling along, trying hard to make the right decision. Remember that you are not alone. All of Comm Arts will be by your side.
