I felt lucky and happy that I volunteered for the Tech Ghee Active Ageing event where I had a chance to meet and shake the hands of the Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. I met many new people and I had the pleasure of working with not only one but two wonderful bands from Lasalle. Above all, it was a good chance for me to get more experience in production and put to use all the skills that I have learnt in my Diploma of Audio Production for this event.

There were some challenges that I had to deal with on the event day. First of all, when there was a misunderstanding between the organiser of the event and the main sound system contractor's guy that lead to a problem: we did not have our own mixer and that sound guy did not want me to touch his console. I tried to convinced him to let me use his small mixer. After a long conversation and with my knowledge about the sound system, I managed to convince him and he let me use the small mixer with 8 inputs. After the line check, I figured out that we can only use 7 inputs (1 input was faulty) so I had to change the plan for the I/O. With this small Behringer mixer, the headphone out was also faulty plus there was not a monitor next to the console, so the only place and way for me to listen to the band was at the speakers front of stage or the nearest front of house speaker which was 3 metres away from me.  It made me determined to work even harder to give a good mix for the performance.

The second challenge that there was no separate space for the band on stage. Samantha - the event's organiser wanted us to push all the instruments and cables close to the back of the stage after each song that we performed. Due to the busy schedule of the event, each band played only one song then took a break, stood by and waited for the next turn to perform, that made us have to push in then out all the instruments and cables during the whole event for at least 3 times. In general, I managed to achieve the changes successfully, but in my opinion for the event it looked a bit unorganised on stage. 

These two problems which we managed to fix could really have been avoided. It would have been better for the organiser to arrange for the main sound system contractor to contact us before the event, so we can confirm our equipment requirements were directly and more easier. The stage arrangement could have been better organised.
