Broken up by subject for the High School social studies PLC. Whoever teaches the specific subject shows up. Have not had an administrator show up to a PLC. We discuss where we are in pacing, what like assessments we have used and how our students performed on them, and discuss what like assessments we will use in the next two weeks. Meeting adjourned, takes about 5 minutes.

The curriculum coach creates the agenda with the input of the grade chair, the agenda is sent out at least 24 hours ahead of time. (most of the time on Monday, PLCs are Wednesday)

The curriculum coach leads the PLCs --depending on the PLC, there is great collaboration or not so much collaboration. Some PLCs require a lot of teaching, while others can jump right in. Admin attends as well as EL, EC, and interventionists when necessary.

My current PLC looks a bit different than other grade levels, EC. We spend time discussing new guidelines and going over date requirements for our paperwork/IEP/BIPS/progress monitoring/headcount. We spend some time with total school supports. Typically, we have an admin, coach (with no EC experience), and our EC team present. (We all teach different grade levels with varying degrees of service time and support)

When able we involve curriculum coach or PD expert.

Regarding grade level PLCs, we refer to them as "hallway meetings" and these are conducted weekly.

I moved to English this year. We've had 2 PLCs so far. As I've observed, the PLC includes the entire department. In these 2, we've brainstormed what skills we want to assess for the week, practiced possible instructional activities that we can use with our kids, and sketched a possible unit plan with our new curriculum. Last year, as the SS lead, I led a book study every other PLC and attempted to use the other PLCs for common lesson development (but it didn't work out).

Our PLCs are every Tuesday for at least one hour. The whole grade level meets in one room with dividers in it for sound reduction. We update our data boards, with the red/orange/green cards, plan common assessments. Ask quetsions - what are the learning objectives, how we will know they learned it, what will we do if they didn't. Admin is there, coaches are with each subject. There is an agenda and we stick with it with fidelity. At my school we often hear the phrase, PLCs are sacred.

My PLC works VERY well together! We have an English MCL who typically leads the meeting. Admin is sometimes (not often) present, but I think that will change this year. We typically meet for at least an hour. We begin by covering norms, we share a rose/bud/thorn, we discuss student needs, the standards we will focus on with upcoming texts, we plan for upcoming units. Our PLC does a great job of sharing responsibility and working to divide and conquer when it comes to creating assignments. I'm with a new group this year - we have not yet gotten to the point of utilizing a common assessment, meaning we haven't spent a great deal of time discussing data or current student performance.

Our Core Plus (elective team) meetings bring together teachers from art, music, PE, foreign languages, and CTE to collaborate. We usually discuss upcoming events, student needs, cross-curricular connections, and ways to support each other’s programs. An administrator never comes to our meetings unless we request one to come for clarification. We ALL try to manage time wisely. It can go on for anywhere from 20-45 minutes.

With Kinder it looks different. We aren't able to do a deep data dig until we do state testing. In the beginning it is mostly reviewing standards, curriculum, creating common assessments. We typically do not talk about what our assessments look like after the kiddos do them...something we know we need to work on. After we have data from state testing our principal will come in with us and do a data dig, but we do not do a DEEP data dig until the MOY. But the ultimate goal is to get our kids to grow with the support they need. We meet twice a week

A typical PLC is attended by the entire grade level, Curriculum Coach, and sometimes the Principal. We get updates from county via the Curriculum coach and we attempt to discuss students and their data, but never leave with an action plan for them. We end up with more questions than answers when we leave. Not very productive or useful.

In the CTE PLCs for Entrepreneurship or Microsoft Excel, there is an agenda where we discuss best practices that we are using with our students for about 20 minutes. We also discuss resources for about 10 minutes that students can use to enhance their learning. The last 15-20 minutes we are discussing how things are going in the classroom with our instructional practices and then the last 5-10 minutes discussing information outside of the classroom. PLCs are normally an hour from 4-5 PM. In addition, we meet on the 2nd Tuesday (Entrepreneurship) and 4th Tuesday (Microsoft Excel) of each month and system-wide PDs in August, October, and February every year.
