Dear Calculus Rookies,

During this semester be prepared to do your web-assign, projects, and study for your test. Here is a list of does and don’ts.

Do not forget to do your web-assign, because it counts as twenty percent of your grade and prepares you for your test.

Do participate in class, if you do not the class gets boring.

Do not show up late for any reason and do not disrupt the class or, you will suffer the consequences.

Do your best on the aysmatic (or however you spell it), it counts for extra credit.

Do not chew gum in class or Rosey will get mad.

If
you are going to watch YouTube videos in class please do it in the
back. That way you will not distract the people behind you.

Okay enough with the do and don’ts.I hope you have fun in Calculus and laugh at Mr. Walsh’s corny jokes. One
more thing in the beginning the concepts are hard to grasp, but they
tone down after a while. In other words do not drop the class at the
beginning. Most people did this in my class and rite after wards the
class became ten times easier.

For Those Who are Challenger Students

Do
not even think about dropping the class. Do not even think about
thinking about dropping the class. This is a very serious issue. Mrs.
Austin in on the fence about taking Calc out of Challengers options
because so many people are dropping it. If you need help Thomas Beasley,
Russell Emerson, Tim Sonic, and I (Fez) are willing to help you. To
help you guys get started I have opened my Desmos graphs in case you
have to do something similar. Here are the links.

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/nw3qvt8cqq (first Calc Graph A.K.A Example)

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/oqktooiu7w ( This was counted as a test and we explored a piece wise function)

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/qf5uptzfyg (This is problem number 115 on page 117)

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/88axidawww (This was a project where we had to find the tangents and decorate the graph.)

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/hru895yq5j (This is problem number 27 on page 155)

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/ecdu0f0yqr
(This is a change in rate project, I did a change in rate problem. If
you do not know how to do change in rate this desmos may help you
visualize it.)

 Sincerely a Calculus Veteran,

Fez

Dear future calculus
students,

If you are taking this
class, more than likely you wanted go into some sort of engineering. This class
in my opinion can be challenging at times but it can be extremely rewarding.
This class will get you ready for calculus based physics, which is really cool.
And by taking this class, you would now be able to apply math to all sorts of
thing that you may find in the natural world. For instance most geometry,
algebra, and trig are just about understanding concepts. These past math courses
you have ever taken in your academic career are all to prepare you for this
amazing class. In this class you will try to find something called derives. Derivatives
are basically the rate of change at a given point. So if you happen to throw a
basketball and wanted to know how fast the ball is moving at that point, you
will have to use the concepts you learned in this handy calculus class. Oh and
did I tell you by taking this class you will now stand out from most of the
other students who would never get close to understanding these cool concepts.
So be proud of yourself and work hard so one day you will be able tackle even
the hardest math world has to offer.

Congratulations and
good luck,

Su Yang
