         <title>How does the electric motor work?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The electric motor uses the attract and repel properties of magnets to create motion. In this electric motor, there are two types of magnets, permanent magnet and temporary magnet (electromagnet). In this case, the neodymium magnet is the permanent magnet (surrounded by a magnetic field) and the wire loop is the temporary magnet (creates a magnetic field when electric current flows through). </p><p>When the wire loop (electromagnet) connected to the axle is placed within the magnetic field of the permanent magnet, a current passes through the wire loop. This results in a temporary magnetic field which interacts with the permanent magnetic field. The interaction creates attractive and repelling forces which push the wire loop to spin on the axle. </p><p>The speed of the spin can be adjusted by the strength of the permanent magnet and the electromagnet.</p><p>Adding on, through the use of Fleming's Left-Hand rule, I can see the 2 sides of the wire loop are pushed in opposite directions which causes the spin to occur. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Changes/adjustments/improvements you made to make your motor work better</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>In order for my electric motor to function, I adjusted different parts of the electric motor.</p><p>First, I adjusted the length of the wire and making them as straight as possible. Originally, the wire did not balance well on the paperclips. Therefore, it was essential for me to straighten the wire and make them the same length on both sides so it would be parallel with the table when placed on the motor. </p><p>Another element, I improved during the process was the height of the paperclips (on the side). In the first rial, the height of the paperclips were too low, making the wire loop stuck against the battery when spun. In the second trial, the height of the paperclips were too low as the wire loop did not show any change when the magnet was placed on the battery. After the two trials, I was finally able to find the suitable height to attach the paperclips making the electric motor work. </p>]]></description>

         <title>How electricity and magnetism are connected </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Electricity and Magnetism are intimately related, where magnetic field is confused when electrons are flowing and flowing of electric current is caused by spinning magnets. The interaction between the two forces can be explained through Maxwell's unified theory of electromagnetism, a branch of physics that studies the relationship between the two forces. </p><p><br></p><p>Induction: Faraday's law states that an electric current can be induced in a nearby conductor by moving magnets or changing magnetic fields. This phenomenon is known as the production of an electromotive force across an electrical conductor in a changing magnetic field and is the foundation for the operation of electric generators, transformers, and induction coils.</p>]]></description>

         <title>2 more applications of electromagnetism</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>MRI: </strong></p><p>The MRI, Magnetic resonance imaging, utilizes powerful magnets which can produce a strong magnetic field in order to force the protons in the body to align with the field. Often the hydrogen nucleus is used for imaging purposes as most diseases could be spotted through an increase in water content. When the protons are aligned, a magnetic vector oriented along the axis of the scanner will be created. The alignment of the protons allows the detection and manipulation of their magnetic properties, resulting in becoming the basis for generating MRI signals and detailed images. </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Maglev Trains: (Magnet + Levitation)</strong></p><p>The train is outfitted with North and South pole magnets and the track is also filled with magnets where the poles of the magnets can switch easily. With this, the train is able to attract and repell at the same time which allows the train to move forward. </p><p>Electromagnetic Suspension and Electrodynamic Suspension are used in the Maglev train. EMS uses the attractive force between the magnets present on the train and on the track, while EDS uses the repelling forces. </p><p>Since the train is levitated, the Maglev train eliminates the key source of friction, resulting in only needing to overcome air resistance. This allows the train to reach its destination at higher speeds than other trains. </p>]]></description>
