Maybe loss of hope for the Jewish people by having their books burnt. A sign of control or power from Hitler and the Nazi's. To rid of Jewish religion just like how they changed the school books and the distortion of German history. They maybe also burnt the books to help paint the perfect picture of Germany. It most likely also involves anti-antisemitism.

The impact this could have on Felix is seeing books of his religion or just books in themselves being burned. This could be confusing and upsetting to him because he wouldn't understand why they are doing it. This could impact him in a negative way because he doesn't understand and he could act out rashly to others. But seeing the books being burnt makes him want to protect his parents, their books store and the books.

So powerful books made by Jewish writers with something to say about rite and wrong in the world will be destroyed by a simple act of burning.

Felix's parents ran a book shop. They loved books and so dose he. So if a group of people start to burn books, then he thinks his parents (Jewish book sellers) are in trouble.
