Concrete

CONCRETE: Artist Christopher Locke made this Nintendo game controller by taking a mold of a real controller, and then casting a copy of it in concrete. 1. This piece caught my eye because I think the contrast between the material and the original object is humorous. The original controller is supposed to be about quickness and technology, while concrete/fossilization is about ancient heaviness. It also makes me think about what future civilizations will think of us when they find the remnants of our society, and we aren't around anymore to explain it. 2. Most of the time when we think of concrete as a material, we think of utilitarian uses like buildings, parking lots, or maybe fountains, etc. I like that this artist is using concrete for a sculptural purpose without a typical use or function. 3. In this case, I think the value of the object comes from the artist's idea, not from the material itself. Concrete is very cheap, only a few dollars for a large bag at Home Depot, so it is the artist's idea concept and the time and effort to make the mold and cast the copy that gives this pieces interest and value

WOOD: Sculptor Giuseppe Penone carefully carves away the layers of a large tree until he reveals the original core of the tree when it was much younger, deep inside. 1. This piece caught my attention because it was so surprising to see the skinny little tree inside the giant log. 2. I love this work because instead of using wood to depict some other form, he is revealing the nature of wood itself, as a material, how the wood was created by nature. It makes you think about how living things grow and change with the passage of time. 3. Although sometimes wood can be very valuable as a material, these seem like 'common' logs to begin with. I think the value of this work is more about the artist's concept and his ability to carve the baby tree out so carefully. The artist seems to be showing how miraculous trees are by looking more closely at an 'ordinary' log.

GOLD/JEWELS: This ancient Egyptian amulet is an amazing example of precious metal/natural stone artwork/craftsmanship. 1. This particular piece caught my eye because of its huge size (large enough to cover a whole human chest) and the repeating lines in the feather pattern. 2. A lot of cultures use gold in jewelry, but this one stood out to me because the lapis lazuli blue stone and red carnelian are such a bold contrast to the gold. 3. The value of this piece is of course in the material itself, but also in the extreme age of the piece, as well as the skill involved in making it. Also, the value is different for the culture that created it - for them, this piece had additional spiritual and religious significance that we may not connect with personally today.

FIBER ART/TEXTILES: Claudy Tapia Retamal founded a group of textile artists in her city. They 'yarn bomb' objects in their publicly visible environment like trees, benches, cranes, boats, etc. 1. This work caught my eye at first because of its large scale and bright colors. I love how delightfully friendly and optimistic it looks, like a free friendly gift to the whole community who sees it. as I read more about the artist and her team, I really like how it is a group effort collaboration. the togetherness is amongst the makers, and amongst the viewers. 2. Usually knitting and crocheting by hand is a labor of love. It is historically a hand-craft performed by women for the comfort and economic benefit of their families. It shows warmth and caring, so it makes me feel this work as a gesture of caring and good wishes for the community. 3. The value of this work is in the effort of the artists, it takes a long time to crochet that much surface area! Some yarns can be very expensive and precious material, but the artist has chosen economical varieties here to be able to make larger scale and more affordable work.

This work made me stop in my tracks because of its precision and intricate execution. 2. I love how Ohno takes such a common material that is everywhere around us and turns it into such amazing sculpture. I think it's an interesting gender dynamic that she seems to revel in subjects like jets, guns and tanks that stereotypically, young boys often like to draw. 3. cardboard has almost no intrinsic value, but in the hands of this artist, it can be turned into fantastic art. It's all in the vision, tenacity and the acquired skill of the artist.

Materials: Gold, enamel, gem stones
This piece catch my eye because of how beautiful the Snuffboxes were skillfully made of gold and embellished with diamonds, enameled decoration, lacquer, and other luxurious materials. By adding these material the value of the boxes was priceless. The gold snuffboxes and boxes decorated with portrait miniatures were prized and frequently given as royal gifts, often to ambassadors or members of the court in lieu of cash payments for their services. In my opinion, because this was considered a royal gift I think it made it more important and valuable. The value wasn't the gold, but it was the significant of it. The box became an important social prop too many. Snuffboxes were also considered highly fashionable accessories, with some merchants advertising new boxes with each change of season. The popularity of snuffboxes extended to all levels of society, and for those who could not afford gold, boxes were produced in less expensive materials such as silver, tortoiseshell, porcelain, or domestically produced lacquer.

Materials: Stained glass window; vitreous glass paint, enamel paint, silver stain.
This piece catch my eye because this impressive window is one of an extraordinary program of sixty windows made for the Church of the Holy Trinity in New York. I love glass art in churches. In my opinion, this piece inside the church is to me is very valuable because it's where people come and pray and listen to the word of The Lord. The glass material was inspired by windows that the artist had seen at King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, England. The artist was looking at artists of the Renaissance, Bolton interpreted his Old and New Testament scenes with unusual artistry. For that reason the material the artist used took time and skilled to do. Surmounting the figure, Gothic tracery frames depictions of various musical instruments, lyres, lutes, horns, a drum, and a viol articulated in vitreous glass paint and silver stain on richly colored glass. The church that would rival Trinity Church in Manhattan. With its tall attenuated steeple encrusted with Gothic-style ornament, the church expressed a new spirit and sense of freedom, representing a departure from the ecclesiastical conservatism of Trinity.

Materials: Oil on canvas
This piece catch my eye because I always had a interest in art that pertains to angels. And now that I'm a mother the symbol of this art, a mother holding her child means so much more in this painting. In my opinion, the details on this oil painting is beyond amazing. The patience and the time it took to make sure it look perfected. Boucher's made sure the piece being painted had a important value to where someone can make a connection to the paining, just as I had. His skill as a history painter is evident in this intimate, meticulously painted devotional image that might at first be mistaken for a pastoral subject. He subtly integrates a casually arranged bunch of grapes, a symbol of the Eucharist, and a lamb, the attribute of John the Baptist, who is envisaged as a little boy draped in an animal skin. The infant Christ’s penetrating gaze, framed by a brilliant aureole of light, lends the painting solemnity and focus.

Materials: Carpet, cloth, two-part epoxy putty, enamel, and spray paint on canvas on wood.
What catch my eye with this piece was the title of the art. The title has so much meaning behind it. In my opinion this artist painted with a lot of emotions. The value of the piece may not cost much but the significance behind it meant more to the artist. The material itself dominated by shards of black, purple, and blue-green, the fractured surface of this piece suggests the moment of the Big Bang, the beginning of the universe. Many of Dial’s works concern the origin of things. Here, he draws on a line from the Book of Genesis, "And God said, Let there be light and there was light." In his visualization of this divine moment, the three main colors battle for dominance of the composition. One of the oldest veins of art historical thought proposes God as the first artist, the first creator. Dial imagines his own version of the first "image" ever created, the moment when light appears from nothingness.

Materials: Limestone with traces of polychromy and gilding.
This piece catch my eye because the compression of these events into one scene with its complex interweaving of figural masses creates a powerful sculptural statement. In my opinion, this artist had a valuable skill to be able to created something like this. The value behind the craving of each man is so detail and exquisite. The four key events in the final hours of Jesus’ life are dramatically shown here (from left to right) Peter sheathing his sword after severing the ear of Malchus (seated), the high priest’s servant, Jesus miraculously restoring the ear, Judas betraying Jesus with a kiss and Roman soldiers arresting Jesus. In the thirteenth century these barriers often were decorated with extensive narrative themes, especially the Passion, the dramatic final events in the earthly life of Jesus. Because they hindered participation in church rituals by the laity, most European churches eventually eliminated them.

Mostly Gold and Iron: Gift from Doris Duke, Crown made by U Win Maung are the people who have given and made this Crowned and bejeweled Buddha on a throne. It is made out of 20 components of lacquered and gilded wood that fit together , the lacquered and glided wood fit together like a 3D puzzle. 1. This masterpiece really caught my eye because of how detailed and beautiful this masterpiece looked. it was amazing how they used such simple supply and made it into this masterpiece that looks like it is made out of gold with expensive jewels/gems and even diamonds on them. It was so impressive because whoever the person who had made this really, REALLY put so much effort into this giant masterpiece that is huger than a human being. I r was even surprised how no one knew who made this original idea or why they made it, especially how amazing and elegant this masterpiece looked no one knew? It's just here in a museum for people to look at. #2. This artwork was really different form other examples of wood and iron. It was extraordinary because it is hard to carve wood and make this really detailed, also since the creator used iron too was really interesting too since usually iron is hard to shape because it's so hard. The materials they used were a really interesting choice because when you think of wood you think of the long planks from home depot that people would get to build something not to use or carve with so you could make a urge masterpiece like this. Also, when you think of Iron you think of knives or just any cutting tool not to shape and use to make a piece or artwork. #3. I really think that the value of this artwork comes from the time and effort the creator put into it. I think it really stand out because you can tell how much effort and time it takes to set up or take down. It's not like just having one whole build of thus artwork and you just set it up on a display. you really have to take the time and effort to make sure all your pieces are put in the right place to make this masterpiece.

Oil Paints: Artist Claude Monet had made this very beautiful and elegant piece of artwork. #1 When he made this piece of artwork the art almost looks blurry in a way, he had achieved this by doing large brush strokes and putting very little detail into it. You might be a bit confused because it looks like he put a lot of detail into it but he really didn't he just combined different colors with large brush strokes and blending them out to make it look detailed. This was one of the things that really just caught my eye because of how detailed it looked even though it doesn't have that much detail, this is how he created impressionism. By using big brush strokes and not putting to much detail into it even though it looks like he put a lot of detail into it. #2 I really do think this is one of the most interesting and better examples of the use of oil paints because when you use oil paints you would most likely put a lot of detail into it. For example, The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh you can see more detailed and smaller brush strokes, as for Claude Monet he had used more bigger and bold brush strokes which I find really interesting how he was the first one to create impressionism too! I think he art work is very unique because of his style of art.#3 The value of this artwork comes from the ideas and concept the artist had because they had created a new type of artwork call impressionism, impressionism today I believe is very popular and common.

Concrete: Made by - Sabato Rodia had made this Public Art on a concrete wall. #1 This art had really caught my eye because I have never seen anyone do this before. As I was looking at it I was confused what he was trying to do or why he did it. But either no matter why he did it or what it meant it was really interesting to look at because he different types of shapes in a way. Also the colors really popped out and his color selections didn't look like Rodia had a specific color theme he just went with whatever he wanted to do if he had a color on him he would use it no matter if it matched or not he just used it, this art was a really colorful work of art which I think is really cool. #2 I think this is one of the amazing examples of what you could do with concrete since it's so plan and it's color is so plain he was able to make it look more interesting. After all, life can be a little plain sometimes so you add some spice to it and it could do wonders. Like how Rodia did he took something that you probably see daily in your life that is boring and turned it into something special and more colorful even if it might not make any sense what he was trying to do it was still interesting to look at and think about. #3 The value of Rodia's artwork was mainly form his ideas and concept, he had turned something so plain into something colorful. I do think that even though his art isn't perfect nor did it have a specific meaning to it, it really made some type of sense in his eyes. Maybe Rodia felt that this concrete wall needed to be more colorful or maybe he did it because he was bored and just wanted to do it. I may not know what Rodia was trying to do but I am sure that he know exactly what he was trying to do, and whatever he was trying to do was amazing.

Glass: Made by John La Farge he had made this really fantastic piece of art work on glass. #1. His work had really caught my eye by how colorful it was but also how dark the colors were too. Also, it was surprising how someone could make such a huge piece of glass into something as cool as this! Just look at all the details he had put into this just to make this type of art. Imagine if you messed up what if you had to start over again? This artwork was some impressive I just couldn't resist how beautiful it was and how much effort he had put into this. #2 I think this one of the most impressive examples of how you could use glass and make it into art, the detail, time, effort, and most likely the supply he had used! I know that glass can be included in art but I have not thought about using it and putting so much detail into it. Imagine how big this might be compared to human it might be huge! Also when you think about glass you don't really think about anything special you might just think about your window. But no, That's not the only good use of glass. You could reuse broken glass and make it into art or paint something on glass to make it look more special.
#3. The value of this artwork is form the time and effort he might have had to us in order to create this big piece of art. Imagine having to paint those tiny shapes one by one, terrible wouldn't it be! My hand would've fallen off and my patience would be lost and I would probably just quit. Maybe Farge sleeping and then waking up again just to paint this thing for hours and hours until it is finally finished. That would be hard and what if he broke the glass in the making of this? Would he have to start over again because if I wan him I would've quit. His time and effort he put into making this is really impressive and amazing.

Marble: Dame Barbara had made this, you might be wondering how this had caught my eye well. #1I don't image marble to be shaped in such interesting forms. I usually imagine it to be on a countertop or a statue, but this form of art was really interesting. It looks simple but I'm sure it's not since the shapes look so perfect it would've taken a lot of time for Barbara to shape. Also to figure out why she would wanna make marble into this type of shape. But what was really interesting to me was that she had actually hand carved these and that she really liked space, size, and texture, she wanted to eliminate all the color from the marble. She even said that the shapes aren't perfect but to me they actually look perfect. #2. Since this was so interesting I really thought it was one of the most interesting examples of what you could do with Marble instead of using it to make a statue or a countertop she used it to represent what she likes about art and how she liked space, size, and texture. Since she showed another example of how people could be creative with basically anything. her work really standed out to me. #3. Again, I think the value of this art piece is the artists concept/idea. Her work and the reason why she wanted to do this because of space, size, and texture. Which I think is interesting because I don't really see other artists reason why they created their creations and to find someone like her explaining the reason why she did this was great. I think since she explained why she did this and the whole concept of this was one of the main reasons why her art stood out to me. Even though it was simple it had an actual meaning to it, she didn't just do it because she felt like it. She did it because she had a reason to do it.

I have never seen a glass sculpture created this way. The detail is immaculate. It sits on a bronze base wrapped with electric wiring. The woman is nude with large wings, feathers coming out of her head and bird talons perched on arched bow. Another cool part of the design is that it lights up. But it’s not. It’s called, First Impression, and it made one on me. It looks so creepy. It’s an Acrylic art created on a canvas with chicken bones and colored threads. This is considered contemporary art. The chicken bones add a valued dimension of weird and its what makes it interesting to me. Each chicken bone is wrapped in threads and attached to the canvas. It’s an intriguing piece art and who knew something this creepy would be so interesting. The artist took a lot of time in drawing each facial expression and it shows in his work. This piece of art definitely deserves to be put in a museum as it's different and creative.

I have seen this piece of art in movies and always wondered what it was called or where its located. “The Thinker” has many different versions across the globe. There is a version of the thinker at the fine arts museum in San Francisco. The first time I’d ever seen this statue was in the movie, night at the museum, and that’s why it caught my eye. I always thought the statue was created out of stone, but in fact it’s, created out of bronze. Bronze sculpting is a long process with a lot of pieces that must be put together to make into a masterpiece. I find it interesting that the image of the thinker is set to symbolize philosophy. During this time period philosophers where the go to for advice on anything and thats why in my opinion they created a statue to honor their efforts. The value of this artwork is why it was created as it was to inspire philosophy.

This vase reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Troy. The details from the artwork resembles one of the battle scenes from the movie and that’s what got my attention. I wonder if the movie created the battle seen from this piece of art. This vase was created about 500-480 B.C., and it’s crafted beautifully. It's rareity gives it so much value. It is said that the images displayed are from a one-on-one combat duel amongst heroes in the Trojan War. The artistry back then was amazing despite what little tools or resources were available. I give a lot of credit to the artist back then. I believe the artists back then were the pioneers and led the way to our current art platform as without them we couldn’t have any sculptures, or art pieces. It’s pretty neat to be able to see parts of history preserved and displayed for everyone to see and enjoy. In my opinion this is one of the best displays on a vase I have seen and the detail is exceptional.

It’s also an intricate process which involves knives, chisel, gouge, carving, tracing, and ink which makes time consuming and difficult. The artists are very skilled and must be very detailed when carving, if not, they must do it again. In my opinion this is one of the better wood art pieces I have seen.

This piece caught my eye because it looked organized yet messy at the same time. A lot was happening, but not too much to were it wasn't nice enough to look at. I think it was just enough of everything so naturally I kept staring at it. I personally like what Thornton did with the materials. To tell a story and really represent the name of the piece. I think they perfectly suit each other. He used torn and stained clothing, wire and orka stalk and roots. These roots represent the roots of culture and history of Africa. I feel like the material was really being used to its fullest and being represented well. I believe the value of the items are still there but the whole concept and idea that Gates had made it even better. I feel like it emphasizes the whole story by 100. I feel like I am really able to connect and see more of the story with the piece.

This piece caught my eye because I saw a woman laying down in a river. I felt concerned yet she looked kind of at peace. I also was drawn to the surroundings of the piece. I liked the green and floweres shes holding. I feel like this is more interesting because it doesn't really look like oil paint. I feel like the whole concept holds the most value. I think when loiking at this you can't help but wonder about the woman. Is she okay? How did she get there? Whats the back story? Did she drown? She somehow looks peaceful? After reading the story behind this piece I really feel like it was represented well. She slips and falls into the river while picking flowers. She then allows herself to die in the river because of her fathers murder. She seems to finally be free and away from all of the grief and hatred of the cruel world. I think it represents that pretty well.

At first when I saw this piece I thought of astral projecting, lucis dreaming, and shifting. I didn't really thing of dying although I feel like a lot of people wouldn't thought of that first. I feel like it being made of glass can contribut a lot to the meaning but the concept as a whole is a lot too.

Simon Bening is famous for illuminated manuscripts and his art related to the renaissance time. Thus, there are many arts of him recording the picture of society during his time, this art catch my eyes because of the central woman. As I scrolled through his art, I observe most of the pictures contain violent acts such as torturing, killing, capturing. However, This art contains many seven smaller squares surrounding the central female; moreover, the detail of each picture is linked together as a story, in my opinion. I feel like this picture is telling me seven painful hurts that the women inside the picture had to suffer through, and all seven events turned into a sharp knife that pointed toward the woman who sit in an acceptable position as she was ready to take that seven knife.

This Wooden Dresser like material is a Piece known as "Carlton" Room Divider. The piece calls into question conventional furniture forms by combining a space divider, bookcase, and chest of drawers. While reading the description it pointed out to me the little man at the top of the sculpture looks like he is standing over or taking over the sculpture. This piece honestly caught my eye because of the odd counterintuitive shapes as if they are falling off of the sculpture. I really liked how the artist incorporated drawers and wood to bring out the depth of his work. This piece is very interesting to me compared to other wooden art because of the color vibrance within just everyday things of wood for our drawers which makes it possible for anything to become an art piece. For this art piece I feel the value comes from material itself as it can eb portrayed in someone's home who is a gamer which I can see it being very valuable for someone who likes the abstract concept.

This Glass in particular caught my eye due to its intricate detailing around the whole outer space of the glass and leaves room for the class and elegance, along with the feeling of aesthetics. I feel this glass piece was more interesting opposed to the other beautiful pieces that used glass as well in their art. This piece here bring nature and an art canvas to a very spherical nature. The value of the art composed in this work is skills and difficulty as the material lookee to have been a lengthy process, in my opinion.

Printed from negatives that were probably unintentionally solarized during development in the field, the photographs appear illuminated by an unearthly light and are, in part, tonally reversed: the black sky becoming an appropriate symbol for the terrible place called Wilderness, second only to Gettysburg in the number of Union killed, wounded, and missing. This piece caught my eye as I seen that it represent a time in history that is never forgotten but always feared. It also caught my attention by having a authentic look to the trees the fragile twigs forming from the ground and the contrast of the leaves and the sky. The value comes from the material itself and its concept of history and the representation of nature and how it could reflect a lot of what happens on earth.

This abstract beautiful painting/ spray painting is When the cutouts were removed, the unpainted paper color was revealed, silhouetted against a halo of spray paint. DS 1958 is one of the first studies of this type to be made and displays Smith's experimentation with different media. Here, he sprays metallic paint over the enamel for a shimmering painterly effect. This is widely used throughout paint today. Many San Francisco street artists like to use their art by creating stencils and making universe and galaxies of their art in the form of spray paint. I really like David Smith and his type of art outlook on his use of shapes and abstract looks to create the emphasis of the shapes . This piece caught my eye for its black and white colors being used and how he is using negative and positive aspects in this work presented. I feel this piece in my opinion was interesting for its use of negative and positive space. I also really like how he incorporated shapes in the use of scales in a random way. I believe the value of his art comes form the concept being used.

This was probably worn by a super rich person because it was so intense to construct. The pattern is hand painted on silk made from China and drawn free hand in ink and silverpoint. There is a lot of different pigments so that makes this dress even more expensive to make. Since it was brought from China to show off in England I am sure it made it very valuable and desired for its time.

Due to the history of porcelain's cultural spread from China to Europe, there are many different connotations and interpretations that a person could assign to any work using this material. In this case, I think that Lee does a wonderful job of showing this transfer by using Asian porcelain creation techniques to readapt both Korean and European myths and stories. 1. The addition of gold and other precious metals on top of Lee's efforts to show a cross-cultural story add an underlying economic layer to her works that initially caught my eye due to the depths she created. 2. For this reason, Lee's drive to use an Asian artistic medium to tell stories with Western morals adds another dimension to her work above the past use of porcelain for purely aesthetic purposes. Lee uses this material in order to critique and analyze how it came to be, which is why I think that her works are some of the best in porcelain arts. 3. Overall, while it might seem like the precious metals that she uses may add the most value to her work, the concepts she embeds in them are ultimately what make pieces like this so important.

Cardboard is generally seen as a worthless or transitionary material that serves no real purpose on its own, although this view is challenged by Dylan Shields as he recreates scenes from Greek myths using only cardboard. 1. This piece caught my eye because of the amount of care put into making cardboard seem like a polished stone material as would be traditional for sculptures depicting religious figures or myths. The value of the work no longer comes from the material used, but rather from the story itself. 2. Since Shield's attempted to mold cardboard into a facade of a different material with the intention of challenging economic and cultural value in art, his works are an excellent example of what could b done with cardboard. 3. The purpose of Shield's work is to highlight how the material of cardboard itself has no real value, but rather the effort put into transforming it, making it a new creation with a new and higher value as well.

The interesting part about why I thought this art piece is attractive. The idea of making the goat stand on his hind feet just like a human can mean anything. The way that the mountain goat is standing gives me the impression that he is looking out at something in the distance. The reason why I think this piece is interesting than the other ones found is for its visual appearance. All most mimicking a life size goat. The material used is mostly concrete which is a smart choice for making such power piece. Everything about this peace is exceptional but adding color could have been added. Overall, very appealing. The value that this art piece can vary from a high or really low number. The fact that it was a gift its value can only cost so much. My highest bet is $200

Being about to learn about other cultures is great. This art piece was mad out of wood, iron, with lacquer, gilding, and mirrored glass. Although in the image this looks really tall, and its shiny gold is probably what caught my attention. Yes, although this piece is made of similar material it still has much more fragile stuff like that glass. Personally, I have never seen one of this in person, but the color theme and its material use is acceptable. The value this throne has is unmeasurable due to the throne belonging to the country's religion. The importance that this throne has to its religion is priceless, but its value is worth to be crown royalty.

This piece was created using only cut-out black paper, resulting in a super thin and heavily detailed piece by Aoyama that I think shows the extent to which paper arts can reach. 1. Due to how hard it can be to handle a thin and flimsy material like paper without breaking, Aoyama's work caught my eye due to the time and effort she puts into making these skilled pieces come to life. 2. As a result, her work shows a mastery of effort into working with paper that I think makes it all the more intriguing. Everything from planning out a piece to the execution has little room for error, which Aoyama manages to navigate seamlessly. 3. Since paper is a relatively easy material to come across, Aoyama's skill in creating these cut-outs is what truly adds value to her work since the things that she creates cannot be replicated easily and must be handled with care to avoid breaking them.

This piece has cut out pieces from the background and detailed work on the woman in bed that all call to many artistic choices being made. I personally love to try and figure out the reasoning behind the choices I see, so this kind of work was fascinating to me. 2. Due to the time-consuming nature of sewing as well as its integration into creating such a detailed piece, I think that Zangewa shows a personal and talented take on textile arts through pieces such as this one. 3. As for the value of this piece, I believe it mostly comes from a combination of the concept and the time put into it. Zangewa's attempt at showing an intimate longing from this woman combined with the sheer amount of time it must have taken to stitch this piece together all speak of a dedicated and intense love that makes this piece a powerful work.

Due to the scale and the aesthetic attractiveness of this piece, it caught my eye easily. I unfortunately missed this while it was in an exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, but I still think that the images online are beautiful. 2. The fact that Eliasson knew about the fact that all people percieve differently and created a piece such as this one to emphasize these small differences is a wonderful take that creates a unique experience for both the artist and the viewer. 3. Here, both the materials used and the effort put into assembling all of these different pieces make this piece a financially valuable work, although I think that the intent of highlighting differences in perception and thus creating a new individual interpretation for each person makes this emotionally valuable as well.

I chose this certain piece, truly because at the first look is was really cute. Once I got to reading more, and looking a bit deeper, I noticed more interesting details about. For example, this is meant to be a sculpture of a baby, but he has he has a grown-man looking face. I also was not expecting this to be carved in 1876! Very cool.

At first, I thought it was a couple but then with further investigation it is fur traders, two men. I also really love the emphasis on the boat and how much the cat stands out, while the bag ground almost looks foggy and blurry.

This is a table I found made out of oak wood. This is a perfect example of functional art from the 1700's. If you look further into the piece, it has hand painted details all across the top and the gold petal around the corners and down the legs. The hollowed out legs that can still maintain the weight is very interesting to me. When you open the drawer, there is also a mirror and more hand painted details. Simply said, I think it is very beautiful.

Initially, this was fascinating to me because of the division of the glass and the bright colors of the glass. I love bright colors and this immediately jumped out at me. I consider this to be portraying a single scene, when I read it explained how vertical and horizontal sections of the piece tell different stories. Very powerful especially when you look at each person's expressions along with the bright colors. A bit mind-boggling to me, which is also really cool!

Steel and Gold: This armor garniture attracted my attention for its use of gold for a steel suit of armor. Another reason it caught my eye is that I can tell a suit of armor such as this one is handcrafted and not machine manufactured as modern-day protection. I can see when zoomed in on the floral line and the number of symbols that mark this suit have taken perhaps months to years to craft a suit of art. This armor garniture got more focus than others for while others are one-piece or half of the set, this suit of armor is an entire set that shows how much the designer put into it. I guess the use of gold garnered my attention as well as gold isn’t a common material to waste and the use to coat this suit with the amount of symbolism on it speaks dedication and precision. While the gold is pleasant to look at, the purpose of a suit made not only for form but function as well for King Henry VIII of England, is what had my interests. The design of the etching and gliding places can be attributed to its designer that it would stand out among more common versions. Being the earliest surviving Greenwich garniture, an armor passed down Galiot de Genouilhac’s descendants saw the suit from 1500 to the present in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Pen and Ink: This paper painting of the “Lotus” caught my eye for beautiful realism that made me feel as though I wasn’t looking at a paper painting for a second. Illusion and trickery of the Lotus painting fooled my eyes as if it was alive with its contrasting colors with the lotus helping a sense of emotional balance and purity with its bright color as opposed with its darkened colors around it. I think I chose this ink painting over the others, perhaps the themes that were used as well as what shapes were such as flowers along with what appears to be grass and bushes. What I found exceptional is how Chang combined the usage of light and dark colors and somehow created this symbolism and meanings the lotus carries. The darker colors when looked at give that feeling of unease and looking at certain angles, seem to have faces of despair or agony, further giving the dark vibe. The precision of Chang's strokes with the ink tells me how much patience and skill they put while minimal to no errors points to complete. I think the value of the art is perhaps how the painting shows how the purity of lotus can emerge from the dark colors that represent darkness and corruption and spring forth anew with life. An image of yin and yang, a painting of balance through ink has shown in its meaning that in darkness, light can find a way and this lotus can teach me how and more!

Ceramic: This piece of pottery by Exekias fascinates me as a sculpted piece of ceramic can hold much history on it and outlast the time it was made and reach itself to modern hands as a significant piece of history itself. A small reason as to why this caught my eye is that I’ve always felt that Romans and Greeks make the artwork a top priority and so had well-versed artists. The significance of the pottery has captured my thoughts as Achilles slaying the Amazon warrior Penthesilea. The texts and inscription are hard to understand, I can tell they help further reveal and amplify the image on the pottery. It amazes me that despite degradation and the amount of time that has passed from the time it was made, it withstood time and found itself in good condition in the present. Why I chose this particular piece was unlike many that list their image and become dull and lifeless art pieces, this Amphora survives with little damage. I find the value for a common piece of pottery to carry a historical moment to be one of its features preferred over the many. Crafted and signed by Exekias with the number of artistic details and inscriptions shows the amount of time it took to make this contribution as a painter.

Fiber/Fabric/Textiles: While not able to find the identity of the person who made this sash/belt, I can speak truthfully that this piece of clothing caught my eye for its careful use of cloth to form the shapes it has. Another thing why it caught my eye was I can guess it was handmade since long before machines did the job for us. I chose this piece for it was far more preserved and practically in good condition despite the slight small tears and dullness of its color. I picked this sash/belt over other items similar to it for how its usage of color pleasantly goes well with shapes woven into the clothing. I find it exceptionally amazing how something that could be man-made has such precise shapes that they don’t clash in the wrong way! I think that the value of the sash/belt is perhaps the sentimental worth to those who made it, nothing fancy like gold or jewelry to twist its honest story. The amount of work and precious to craft this handmade woven sash/belt can convey the number of emotions its original owner put into and to see it in good condition shows me the amount of care each owner gave to it. An accessory of Diné (Navajo) culture, shows it giving up extravagant materials for common clothes can speak the number of stories it carries.

Oil Paint: This oil painting by Galettes amazes me on how lifelike the painting can become and how it plays with our human perception. This oil painting caught my eye as the characters in the painting felt so real that they were alive and this painting almost tricked me on how realistic I became the longer I kept looking at it. I picked this painting out of the rest as it's soothing and normal to look at, unlike the rest of the pieces that show strange materials and or are close to indecent the characters can become! I preferred this art piece because it is by far the most natural to admire and normal in comparison to the artist's more daring and aggressive paintings to the calming artwork. I find this oil painting exceptional for how this piece of art can inspire memories of good times and advocate ideas of celebration. I believed the value of Bal du moulin de la Galette is probably the amount of diversity and made it so there are various sights and activities. I can see how each character was made with details from those closest to those in the distance, each had the painter give time for all of them to make it so each one is unique and not just copies of the same template with brightly colored brushstrokes. This art portrait of Parisian life, with its creative style and impressive usage of oil and brushstrokes, shows Renoir’s masterful art skills and is one of the first of many Impressionism art.

This painting was one of his most famous pieces and was created in Arles, south of France, in 1889. This artwork caught my eye because it looks to me that each flower is showing a different meaning. After I found this I started some research about glass are and how it was created and how this piece of art was created specifically.

Vasa Museum is one of my favorite museums. I didn't know much about the museum before my visit. It was amazing to see such an enormous warship in front of me. The roaring lion is the symbol of Swedish King. It was made of linden wood and built in sections. The Roaring Lion was very special and became the mascot of the Vasa salvage project. My Chinese zodiac sign is tiger, thus I like most of the Felidae animal. I want to pick all five artworks that I saw in person.

I love the turquoise, red, and white mosaic of a statue as it is a beautiful and symbolic stone to indigenous people. I love the balance and cemetery of this twin serpent that makes thie depiction look powerful. I saw this piece in the link from The British Museum and I couldn’t locate all the names and dates but there's some hints of 1400 and 1500s depicting water beings.

*Wood, turquoise, and terracotta looking pieces remind me of clay

This stood out to me because of the element of storytelling in this art piece. This has cultural and historical value being this was during the period of the Incas. It made me wonder what tools did the artist use to create this and the significance to these precious little gems. This is discovered art that is historically archived in Central Coast of Peru, potential cities being Ancon or Pachacamac. There is a story here. It looks like two birds, two people, a deep connection or intertwining of the two and what looks like four directions (one is missing). The center of the box is a triangle made of abalone shell with what looks like an upside down heart. I notice the people have head pieces, and I wonder if the birds represent a family crescent, name or tribe. Framing this “story” is what looks like waves.

One of the main five elements I selected was wood and precious metals. I love the simplicity, balance, texture, and depth at the same time. The time and intentionality of this piece was specific and purposeful. I wonder if its a partnership or marriage happening. I love the figures as well.

*Metal, wood

The blending of the multiple elements purposefully used to accentuate the robe, earrings, branded cuff with the artist's last name, the flower in her hair, and the amazing hair draw you in. The focus on the historical statute became a signal of beauty as the abolition of slavery. This is not a portrait of a person but rather the depiction of a "type." Its historic title, La capresse des colonies, invokes a slur to refer to a Caribbean woman; it is used as an object of novelty and desire. - The Met

*Algerian onyx-marble, bronze, gilt bronze, enamel, white marble socle, amethyst.

You can press a different section and each drawing put on a different picture and each has a different meaning. I love how the stars look on the painting. I think the value comes from the picture itself it shows the milky way from July to August when it is most clear.

This piece of art work caught my eye because I like taking landscape pictures myself. I looked up the photographers’ work and realized he focused on photography and of course mostly landscapes. As I looked through other photos from other artists, Gustave Le Gray had some very simple but interesting landscape photos. I enjoyed most of his work because it was always about being in nature and exploring. The value comes from Gustave’s vision and his angle he would use for his photos. He definitely had some skill executing his work.
(1849-52)

What caught my attention was the popping color of the flowers and leaves, also the little bird on the branch. It caught my eye because of how dark the flask is with the popping light color. It has a great balance of contrast and space to fit with the actual flask. In my opinion, it was the most executed art work compared to other similar art pieces. The great detail in the flask. What stood out to me was the small figures on the upper part of the flask. Meaning it’s supposed to look abstract and different. Graffiti relayed on the use of your letter work and the line work you have. “Bihno” definitely uses great line work letter structure in his piece. The value from the artist comes from keeping the art traditionally correct. He showed his skill and experience by incorporating lots of line work and blending of spray paint.

My French friend told me if I have time, must visit the most beautiful church in Paris. I didn't want to look up the pictures online before my visit, so I don't know what to expect. It was not so easy to visit Sainte Chapelle, first, we had to buy ticket, since most of the church in Europe is free to enter. After we got our ticket, we had to wait and go to security check. When its our turn to enter, we had to walk up through a narrow staircase. However, when I saw the Chapelle, I was speechless, I can't describe the beauty of the stained glasses. According to the official website, "the stained glasses, arranged across 15 windows, each 15 metres high, the stained glass panes depict 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments recounting the history of the world until the arrival of the relics in Paris." It must be very difficult to make all the stained glasses during 1243. The glasses were so beautiful, I didn't pay much attention to other part of the Chapelle.

I can see the artist's attention to detail, it makes me feel that I am in the room watching them play chess. What is exceptional about this to me is that this became to the first work accepted by the Metropolitan Museum as a gift from a living artist. I think the value of the artwork comes from the skills and difficulty involved. Oil painting takes much more time and effort to get them done. Perhaps the artist chose wood instead of canvas to finish it faster but still we can't ignore the extraordinary detailed work.

Last time we went was 2019, I want to show my children the most rare cabbage in Taipei. The Jadeite Cabbage is rare, is because it was carved on a natural piece of jadeite. Jadeite is consider a precious material in Chinese culture, we used Jadeite in praying rituals. According to Wikipedia, Jadeite Cabbage is a master piece because, "The figure was carved from a single piece of half-white, half-green jadeite which contained numerous imperfections such as cracks and discolored blotches. These flaws were incorporated into the sculpture and became the veins in the cabbage's stalks and leaves."

I can't tell if he is holding something or is the moon in the back giving the impression of him holding it with his hand. What is exceptional about it is the sense of fatherhood and kindness on the eyes of Saint Christopher. I think the value of this Fresco painting comes from the concept and skills of the artist representing it, in addition to it you had to be very skilled on Fresco to do something like this.

Oil on the canvas this painting is the most interesting to me out of all the related pieces of work because of everything that is going on. usually artwork has one specific detail that is emphasized but I feel that this painter is so brilliant that every stroke in detail is emphasized. I love how there is a sleeping man in the background that amazes me because it is unexpected and organic. To the shading, If you look at the woman dancing she’s surrounded by a black cloud of shade that is her own specific space and it’s like the artist makes you wonder is that black shading her lyrical lines of movement. I adore the potency and brightness seen in her white dress if I could pick out what was emphasized in this painting I would say it is her dress. I appreciate the shadow of her on the wall. The way the artist constructed her hands it is as if you can almost feel what her next hand movement will be. It makes me realize how well oil painting can be used so well that it could be made to look real. This painting caught my eye because you see a woman alone on the floor moving by herself while everyone else watches that stood out to me, and she has a kind of carelessness and freedom to her. I feel like this is most interesting because the painter really utilize the oil to provide a lot of flexibility onto the canvas I feel that it brought it to life and not a lot of artist can do that this painting is exceptional because everything is balanced not too much color not too many characters the lighting in the room it’s brilliant. the concept this painter had the time and skill executed a wonderful piece and I do think that it added value to the overall piece of work.

This is one of my favorite pieces because of it's elegance and simplicity. It is made of Glass! Along with Silk, Metallic thread, and plastic. These materials used amazes me. Trust me I am not sure where the glass is applied in this dress and I wish I read somewhere in the details where it is. But it is beautiful. That is why I find this piece most interesting. It caught my eye because it is vintage but I feel it still is Modern this dress could be worn today in this century this artist made this dress timeless true couture. This dress is exceptional because of the frame work and the shape of it I feel the Blanc knew how to find the balance between simplicity and excitement and risk. Simple yet bold how the dress extends out. This dress is casual but luxurious because of the time it looks like was spent in adding each diamond and lace. Vertical linear angled shapes are in the details of this dress at the neckline the craftsman ship in this dress is brilliant. The idea and value of this piece was definitely successfully executed based of the focus, attention, the design, and the invested tools and elements used to create this piece.

I appreciate this piece of art especially because of the material which is made up of Gypsum. Gypsum is a piece of material that is of a rock core and the outer two layer pieces are special paper, artist like to use it because it is odorless, non toxic, natural material and you can sculpt and shape it in any form that you like. In the work of artists and Sculptors this material is irreplaceable. This painting is the most interesting because of the uniqueness of each shape. I appreciate how each shape has familiarity to it yet mystery I love all the beautiful details and different shades of color, which I feel emphasizes on the brighter colors used. The potent red in the background and the shapes laid out on that background like a feast at a table. This piece caught my eye because it has so many things that you can relate to when you look at it like the familiar shaped pieces of food with the odd shaped items. I think this painting is exceptional because it has so much detail in the background in so much modest yet bold statements I think that based off the color used in the details applied made it difficult in doing which definitely adds more value and executing the idea of a great piece of work

The materials that were picked to save someone's life and the artist put this together perfectly. The value of this is priceless to me even though the materials used are valuable themselves. This makes my mind wonder how ancient warriors fought in battle with all of this weight on them. I love seeing art that makes my mind go to an imaginary world and reenact what could be taking place.

This is a oil paint based portrait. It caught my eye, I like the older feel. From her outfit, to her beautiful bracelet. it also stood out to me because she is the main focus of the painting and it is made very clear of that! I felt that because of the contrast of the back round and her so she stands out more. I really like how the oil paint is blending together. I believe this has a tone a value to it because of the year it was created in, gives an insight on the time, and lovely to see the principles and elements being displayed in this portrait.

My brother has brought some home as a souvenir, so it was start and stumbled upon this beauty! This immediately caught my eye with the turquoise. This mask is the represent Quetzalcoatl which is to be known as a feathered serpent who was a deity, you could find in many Mesoamerican religions. The time to make such an amazing piece of art we get to enjoy today. With it being hand created with the use of pine resin, and beeswax, really blows my mind how sustainable these are, and the use of what they had to create in that date in time.

Really brightens the place up and make you think ! Everyone perceives everything different so one may see this differently and that’s what is amazing about spray paint art it can speak to many people in different ways. I believe this took some time, it is layers of spray paint, and spray paint it delicate as you can’t do too much or it’ll ruin the piece, and the technique to create this absolutely amazing!

I think this is a great piece of work because it has so much history to it. This costume was made out of paper and the history behind it is that back then, houses were made of paper and wood and it would catch on fire very easily. Firefighters were known as heroes so they made costumes out of paper and hosted firefighting parades to celebrate these heroes.

Second, I think it's kind of cool to see people turning a simple every day thing, like a glass bottle, into a beautiful piece of work.

My personal favorite is this oil painting made by Claud Monet. When you look closely, you might think that this oil painting is just random strokes of paint. But it's actually more than that. To be able to create a realistic painting, you have to use the right shades of colors, the placement of little subjects. The significant about this painting is that the audience can envision and feel it as well.

Write something fantastic? The art speaks for itself! Origami has always fascinated me due to the intricate folding and how tiny these staple pieces can get. This piece really caught my eye because I have usually seen origamis only made with one piece of paper, but this bird was made with multiple pieces of paper. Although there is rigidity, it also presence a smoothness when looking at it as a whole. The pieces of paper are not just normal pieces of paper. The pieces of paper that make this piece are actually banknotes from Venezuela. When the hyper inflation hit in Venezuela the creator made use of the currency that became worthless. That is another reason why I chose this piece as the best piece to represent paper as a medium, because the materials have value and history as well as the piece on its own being made up of multiple pieces of paper to create a structure. Folding paper may seem easy, but whenever I have tried to make origami, it takes patience and time.

This piece by Erik Sommer stuck out the most for me because I have always seen concrete as buildings, or parts of parking structures like car blocks or barriers around light posts. Whenever I've seen concrete have texture, I've always just seen bricks. The reason why this stood out is because this is the opposite of what I think when I think of concrete. Usually I think of something heavy and smooth, but this piece represents something that is in general not seen as a very heavy object, which is a coat and hanger. I like the irony in the piece. I feel that the concrete material would have been difficult to manage since it could be very fragile, whether it was casted into a mold or just spilt over a regular hanger and jacket due to the thin material where as sidewalks, bricks, or parking blocks are more dense objects. Regardless of the difficulty it could have been to use this material, I believe the idea of irony is what gives this piece value.

This piece is actually a marble structure with a bronze coating. Majority of the piece is coated in bronze which is why I chose this to be my bronze as the main material. The like how it's as if something broke this piece into two and it's not two individual pieces. It represents that one that was together is now apart, and the bronze coating emphasizes Andromeda and the Sea-monster and Leda and the Swan as the characters on top of a stage which is the marble base. I like this piece because it obviously shares a story, but the story is not as obvious. There is are so many reasons that could be as to why they are split up, but the bronze definitely emphasizes that story.

The first thing when I think of glass, I tend to think of shiny, so the matte texture on this glass orchid is satisfying to see. The matte texture gives it more smoothness and tranquility than how bold it would look if it was glossy. This orchid stood out to me because of how much patience it would take to make this since it is pretty thin. From what I know glass could be very hard to work with and can shatter if not made correctly. This piece, in my opinion, brings a lot of it's value with the material that is being used.

I'd like to point out that this picture has so much detail, but not that much detail. I know that doesn't make sense, but it actually does! I love how the painter emphasized the people near the, what looks like a vending spot, by putting a lot of detail on them. Whereas, the background is not as detailed and almost kind of blurry. The blurriness also portrays movement of the people in the background. Picture's that portray movement are always fascinating but this one really took it home, because of how realistic, but not realistic it looks. I think the value of the object comes from how smooth the oil paint gives the painting, but also from the artist and how they were able to depict movement.

California is a stunning marble sculpture. What caught my eye was the elegance and delicacy the piece seems to have. The reason i chose this piece above all the others was the name of the piece resonated with me, and the backstory behind it. I believe the value comes from the artist's idea that he had when making this piece, being that when Power's made this was during the gold rush in California. He put that this piece was made to symbolize good versus evil and it's morale story be that even the most shiniest of appearances won't equal to the most valuable of objects.

What caught my eye of this painting are the dramatics in the lighting the painter used. These drastic lighting effects highlight the essence nature can have- a sense of ruggedness and peace at the same time. I believe what made this oil painting more exceptional than the rest were the dramatics in the lighting, none of the others were able to catch my eye quite like this one did. I believe that the value comes from the skill of the artist. Being able to capture a moment that is so quiet and secluded.

What caught my eye from this piece was the vibrancy of the gold, the subtleness of the details in the wood-carving, and the monotone feeling that the wood itself gives. This piece gave a balance of quietness and vibrancy all at once, something that appealed to me more than the other pieces did. I think the value comes from the material itself, being to amplify certain aspects of the wood- while still retaining it's simplicity it something quite breathtaking.
