         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.</strong></div><div><a href="http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Content/3/NBT/A/1/">CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NBT.A.1</a><br>Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.</div><ol><li>This ties in with Expanded Algorithm of Subtraction because this has the kids break the numbers up into there whole numbers (Ex: 768= 700+60+8) and subtracting them form there to find the sum. </li><li>The purpose of the Expanded Algorithm of Subtraction is to decompose the number and write it in its whole number form. This lets the kids work with numbers they're more comfortable working with. </li></ol>]]></description>

         <title>Connecting to Standard Algorithm </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Expanded and Standard Algorithm are very similar. The standard way has kids line up the numbers by place value like they do the expanded form before they decompose the numbers. The 3 gets crossed out and changes to a 13 because its borrowing from the hundred value that's also why the 8 gets turned into a 7. From there you just subtract by place value . This can be a struggle for kids because they might forgot the borrow from the other place value or forget to change the number they borrowed from, there are many thing that can go wrong. This is why knowing how to subtract using the Expanded Algorithm because it breaks down the whole number to show what each number represents. (E.x: 832 the represents 800 the 3 represents 30 and the 2 is just 2) This is easier for kids because it lets the work with whole numbers that they are familiar with. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>
