Letter Writing: Letters reveal character motivations, advance the plot, and provide insight for the reader on the story. For Darcy the motif of letter writing illustrates Darcy’s personal growth, ultimately leading to his rejection of aristocratic society.

Significant Places: Pemberly and different houses/places reflect the ones that reside there. For instance, once Elizabeth sees Pemberly, her view on Darcy is shifted to a kinder persective. Meryton, where the soldiers live, remains a place of mystery to the reader, much like the intentions of Whickam/Soldiers.

Motivations for Marriage: The recurring symbol of motivations for marriage differ throughout the novel. Charlotte Lucas married for security and advancement in society. Elizabeth, though, insists on only marrying for love. Each motivation a character has for marriage reflects a conflict between societal expectations of marriage and internal desires.
