This was because the Earths core suddenly stopped spinning, deteriorating the earths electromagnetic fields. To fix this, 6 scientist developed a ship made out of unobtanium that also had energy lasers that eventually could make a path down to the core.
 This was an example of bad science because, currently we don't have the technology to reach the earths core.

Simon waits for a while but is still confused, Simon decides to leave everything behind and cut the rope. Joe fell a long way down until he wakes up later thankful to be alive. Hes left alone and calls for Simon but hears nothing.
