You can customize your Canvas notifications at both the account and individual course levels. Account settings apply to all your courses, but course-level settings will override them for that particular course. 

1. Accessing notification settings

• Log in to Canvas.

• Click Account in the Global Navigation menu (usually on the left side).

• Click Notifications. 

2. Managing account-level notifications

• On the Notification Settings page, you'll see a list of notification types categorized by things like course activities, discussions, conversations, etc.

• For each notification type and listed contact method (e.g., email or push notifications), you can choose your desired frequency:

  • Notify immediately (checkmark icon): Receive notifications as soon as possible (may be delayed by up to one hour).

  • Daily summary (clock icon): Receive a daily summary of notifications (usually around 11 pm EST).

  • Weekly summary (calendar icon): Receive a weekly summary of notifications (usually sent Saturday morning).

  • Notifications off (bell icon): Do not receive any notifications for that type. 

3. Managing course-level notifications

• Navigate to the specific course you want to manage notifications for.

• Click the View Course Notifications button on the course homepage.

• You can either enable or disable all notifications for the course using the toggle button.

• Similar to account settings, you can individually manage notification frequency for each notification type and contact method within the course. 

Important considerations

• If you've enabled push notifications through the Canvas Student mobile app, you can manage these settings within the app itself, and those settings will override the browser-based settings.

• Make sure your contact methods (like email addresses) are confirmed in Canvas to receive notifications.

• UNCG has its own emergency notification system separate from Canvas. You can find more information about it on the UNCG Clery Compliance page.
