Medical practitioner - i think they are okay if they can be bought over the counter such as headache tablets. However painkillers that require a prescription should not be used in conjunction with physical competition. The drugs should be checked by the specific sport policy of their chosen sport.
A question with this is how often should the banned drug list change?

I think that painkillers should be used in sport. Although the most damage I have done to my body was when playing sport with pain killers, if I had not been able to take them, I would not have been able to achieve some of the momentous moments in my sporting career. Painkillers allowed me to play my best in these moments. Painkillers do not enhance the players ability to play they only mask the injuries that you occur whilst playing the game therefore they should be allowed to be used in sport and the decision to take these drugs should be up to the athlete. Although I am experiencing pain now I would not go back and decide to sit out a important match because I am a sports player, it is what I know and love and what I was born to do.

painkillers will act as a positive as it takes the pain of injury away and play can be continued however i believe it should only be used for minimal to minor injuries as they aren't severe and have no chance of being further damaged - i believe this due to being a past athlete with a continuous knee injury turning into a more severe. i used painkillers to get over the pain but made my injury worse.

question - in serious cases why are painkillers offered if the case could become more serious?

painkiller use should be monitored among all athletes and only used for small muscle strains and cramps to increase focus and maintain a constant and safe level of performance. Further injury can often cause danger when pain killers are used to suppress pain caused as a result of them. This is because pain killers reduce the feeling of pain but do not heal injuries therefore increasing the risk of injured athletes to cause further injury when playing whilst using pain killers. therefore it is not in the best interests of the coach to always prescribe painkillers to athletes to avoid their long term injury, and hence why any pain killer use should be monitored.

question; what types of injury are pain killers necessary to be prescribed (only small injuries or only serious injuries)

If an athlete has injured themselves or severe pain, they should take this into consideration and not continue to play under painkillers
