I worked on syllabication with one of my tutorees today. He was struggling with the word "fig", inserting an "r" sound in between the /f/ and /i/ sounds. I wrote the word on a whiteboard, then underlined each individual letter, starting with the /f/, and had him blend the sounds together.

I love the StoryOnline Website (where a celebrity reads a story). The students enjoy it and I've used it when I needed a few minutes to take care of a different task. This book, "A Bad Case of the Stripes", is a hit with the K class.

"The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything", is another great book for the K class that has an October/pumpkin theme. The students always sit quietly on the rug and are immersed in this story.

Our K class has a new Nursery Rhyme each week, with this one being an October theme again. It shows the students the rhyming pattern. We say the Rhyme together each morning during Calendar Math, but here is a clip (which we use as brain breaks during the day).

My students LOVE playing Blooket. I think many of us remember this game as "kahoot", but there are so many different game options now. Our personal favorite in my class is "fish frenzy". They have thousands of pre made games that improve vocabulary comprehension. You can also create your own games. I am currently using blooket to increase reading comprehension in short vowel cvc words. Students will see a picture on their iPad and must match it to the correct word.
