The Wright Brothers once said "It is possible for flight without a motor but not without skill and knowledge."
Since early in history, man has been fascinated with the sky and possibilities of flight. Improvements in flight, especially in the 20th century, have revolutionized the world. People can go around the world in less than a day, cross oceans in a matter of hours, even go from city to city in a fraction of the driving time. This easy access and quickness of flight as caused it an immense popularity and fascination, especially with children. With the reputation flight has earned, paper airplanes have emerged. There are countless types of paper airplanes, some inspired by actual planes, other inspiring the creation of planes.
One must learn the techniques of throwing the airplane and how to make it soar. As we move through this journey that is called school, let us soar through the sea of expectations.

Complaint letter about my life

Dear Universe,
Let me be frontal and objective. I am afraid I have a faulty life in my hands.
I got this life on January 5th 2002 from a stork's delivery (at least is what my parents say...) and since then, I have been unstoppable. There must have been some mistake.
Other lives are an huge chaos. People are busy with politics problems, tired of complaining about going to work and the optimist and the pessimist still worried about a cup of water.
Meanwhile, everything is going great with my life. I've been well succeed in my school career and I keep sharing happiness with everyone.
Is all of this real?
My state of grace should have expired 3 days after my first dream come true. But the point is after 10 months I have new dreams to fulfill, new places yet to explore and a million moments to enjoy.
Dear Universe, I'm writing to complain about a misunderstanding, I only asked for s simple life and you gave me for mistake the best life in the world. Please let me know as soon as possible what action you propose to take.

Diary of a daydreamer - March 9th 2030

Today is an extremely important day! I have started my career of travel journalism ten years ago. It was a difficult decision to leave the confort of my family, my friends and the security of my home, but I'm glad I made that choice.

I was about to get stuck into the the boring routine with a melancholic job like everyone else around me. But I wasn't quite ready for that so I grabbed a bag and a camera to break the routine and here I am ten years later.

I usually get up early in the morning to watch the beautiful sunrise, have breakfast and do my daily workout, then I just seek for adventure. I have to take photographs of the places I go, record videos, write articles and reports about people and their different costumes and post everything on social media... Without forgetting to enjoy every moment.

I have been in countries like New Zealand, Italy, Japan or Hawaii and I've fed lions, swam with sharks and kissed giraffes. Every week I travel to a different country. I have to plan the places I'm visiting, buy the plane tickets and book hotels but beyond that I have a pretty flexible timetable. I have my savings then I use the rest of my salary to travel, to invest in business or for charity.

Being a travel journalist has taught me how to deal with daily problems, be more open minded, improving my communication skills and get to know myself better. That's why I love my job and I wouldn't change it for nothing on this world. My favourite part of being a travel journalist is getting to meet people from different cultures.

When I feel exhausted at the end of the day I know I have had wonderful moments giving me memories that will hopefully shape me into a better person for the rest of my life.

The impact of globalization

Cultural globalization broadens the range of cultural experiences that we can have. Before globalization, we were only able to partake of our own culture. As globalization has continued, we have come to be able to enjoy aspects of many other cultures. Here in Portugal, I can eat foods from many different countries. I can watch basketball from USA and soccer from England on TV. I can watch music videos from South Korea. We can all watch Harry Potter movies, made by an American studio from books by an English woman. Because of cultural globalization, we can have a much richer cultural life.

Cultural globalization has also spread values and respect for human rights. Globalization has encouraged people in many countries to think about things like the rights of women. It has exposed people to ideas of toleration and freedom of religion.

There is one major downside to cultural globalization. This is the possibility that cultural globalization is destroying unique cultural practices in various countries and thereby reducing the amount of cultural diversity that exists in the world. Certain cultures are coming to dominate the world. McDonald's restaurants spring up in many countries around the world and drive out local foods. For example, American values are being forced on other countries by American movies, TV, music, and other media.

As cultural globalization continues, people argue over whether it is a good thing. On the one hand, it gives people more options and spreads what some would call good values. On the other, it can lead to cultural imperialism and the spread of ruling cultures including the negative aspects of those cultures.

April Fool's Day

In the era of 'fake news' it's often hard on a normal day of the year to work out when we're being tricked into believing something that isn't true, but on April Fool's Day you need to be even more alert. No one knows exactly how the tradition started, but there are plenty of people who enjoy this light-hearted day and are happy to keep the tradition alive.
Newspapers, radio and TV stations have participated in the April 1 tradition of reporting outrageous fictional claims that have fooled their audiences.

In 1957, the BBC made a report on how spaghetti grew on trees. The film showed a family in Switzerland collecting spaghetti from trees and many people were fooled into believing it.
In 2008 the BBC managed to fool their audience again with their Miracles of Evolution trailer, which appeared to show some special penguins that had regained the ability to fly. Two major UK newspapers, published the 'important story' on their front pages.
On April Fool's Day 1998, the American hamburger chain Burger King announced that it had created a left-handed hamburger. The advert for the 'new product' explained that all the ingredients had been rotated 180 degrees so that it was more comfortable for left-handed people to pick up and eat. The following day, Burger King admitted that this advertisement had been a hoax, but said that thousands of customers had gone to restaurants across the USA asking for a left-handed burger.

Nowadays, the environment has been one of the major concerns on our society. But why is that?
Because of many of our actions, like burning fossil fuels or cutting down massive areas of forest; the planet is facing serious problems.
From droughts to floods, almost anything happens. The global temperature is rising, resulting in the meltdown of polar ice caps and in the burning of many trees. Many species will become extinct and many others will become endangered because of the climate change (destroying many food chains). The rain patterns will change, provocating in one day big floods and in another one, big heat waves that will cause droughts.
In order to save our planet from these environmental problems we are facing today, there are many things we can do. With small actions like turning off the lights when we leave a room or going to school by foot instead of by car; and by changing our daily routines (using only organic products), our planet still has hope.
So now you know that in order to save the environment we all should make the difference and contribute to make our home cleaner.
The future is in our hands!

Good Morning to all of you, respected teacher and to our dear friends.

We are going to talk about friendship.

First of all, we would like to thank our English teacher who has given us such a great opportunity to talk about this subject.

A friend is a person you know well and regard with affection, trust and respect.

It is someone with whom you share your thoughts, ideas and personal feelings.

True friendship never sees the caste, creed, religion and skin clour; it only sees the internal beauty, simplicity and soul.

If you just pay attention to a person’s physical appearance, you will not have many friends.

A true friend always stands by you and helps you in difficult situations. A true friend will always support you. For exemple: Pay you the dinner on a Friday night. ( It’s a joke!!!!)

A real friend never leaves you alone especially during the difficult times of your life.

But, what are friends for?

There are friends with whom you have polite chats, and there are your best friends.

They are the ones who are always by your side, no matter what.

You tell them your deepest and darkest secrets.

My best friend always brings her Teddy Bear.

Making and keeping friends can be particularly tough if you are shy.

So here are some important qualities that you can find in a good friend:

1- be always honest with you

2-be a good listener

3- be intelligent

4- share some common interests with you

For example:

Our favourite food is pizza/ hamburguer.

Well…But… Our favourite subject is English/math.

Mariana: I’m Mariana Marinho
Catarina:… and I’m Ana Oliveira
MC: This is Unicorn News.
The Evolution of life
Mariana: Some penguins were seen flying over Antarctica. In slow flight, these penguins didn’t stop until they reached their final destination. What seems imaginary has become real and our reporter will show you how.
Juh: Good morning, I'm Juliana Costa and I'm here to investigate the case of the formidable penguins that are awaking the curiosity of the whole world.
Juh: This recently discovered colony of penguins is unlike any other. They don’t need to huddle together every winter for protection against the bitter cold because these little fellas can do something no other penguins can.
Catarina: And how do they use this incredible ability?
Juh: Well, they fly thousands of miles to the rain forests of South America where they spend the winter basking in the tropical sun.
Catarina: That’s amazing!
Mariana: Thank you, Juliana, this is a remarkable day for the history of evolution.

Endangered Species
Catarina: There was a time when English teachers roamed around many classrooms on the Earth. They still look prehistoric with their bad humour and their terrifying evaluations, chasing students for centuries. If you see one of these species these days you look into the eyes of one of the most beautiful heritages of our planet.
Mariana: These days may soon be gone. There were one million teachers at the turn of the 19th century. This number unfortunately has declined dramatically in the last decades. Nowadays these critically endangered species fight for the survival and against extinction.
Catarina: The extinction clock is ticking and our English teachers' life is in danger.

The Ghost Brush (007)
Catarina: Earlier this month a school was vandalized. Sources tells us the suspect wrote a declaration of love on the wall which is how investigators connected the person to the crime. The wall has since been vandalized and citizens are afraid.
Mariana: This case is worthy of being inspected by the famous detective named Bond, James Bond. Instead we sent our street reporter Juliana to interview some witnesses about the ghost brush.
Good afternoon Juliana Costa tell us more about this case.
Juh: Hi Mariana. These crimes are a mystery to everyone. I’m in the crime scene to talk with some people that are living moments of severe tension. If you take a look behind me you can see the wall completely vandalized.
This is our first witness. Hi Gabriel...
What did you think when you found the wall like this?
In your opinion, what was the purpose of this crime

2. Catarina: Ohhh THE SADNESS. I was a normal person, I used to go outside and hang out with my friends, but... After... After that day when I saw the ghost brush and those terrifying words... I never was the same
3. Mariana: After an advanced research about the paint’s chemical composition, we have found some DNA traces of the criminal.

Mariana: It’s been confirmed that Setubal has broken oof the Portugal an is starting to float away.
We have received word now that volcanoes in Açores and Madeira are erupting, so... Maybe Saturday we will have a slight chance of dead.
