I will have to make sure to make a move without my tutor telling me when to move, which will require me staying on top of all homework and class work and personal research. doing rehearsal diaries but going more in depth of where the activity will be taking me? how it has affected my point of view? how it would push me to do more in my next lesson?
to make sure I'm not doing the activity to just get it done or pass time, take my time go over things and spend as much time as I should to make sure the activity is up to standard. to use my research as motivation as well because it does impact how much effort I put into my research.
I will make sure to very much think outside the box without thinking it is too much because nothing is ever really too much in acting.
making sure to ask questions and do more research on things that are relatable and relevant to the assignment big or small.

on wednesday 12th september we started off the day with a breathing excercise to focus on the air coming into our stomachs and having breath control also we were given characters and we had to modify them and be creative with their voices and how they would walk, for me i was very focused on coming out of my mode body and becoming the character. we were then given an extract about war 'The Red Badge Of Courage'. This brought me into making decisions if i was the character or a narrator. i decided to read as a dramatic narrator with Nelly and Anna-maria.
this pushed me to get out og=f my head and helped me to think of the affect it would have one people listening to my audio and make them feel almost exactly what the shoulders felt fighting in the moment and the rush of emotion it had on them. my struggles was bringing myself to feel what they felt because the language was very string and some words i couldn't protect it through. at the end we had to present it to the rest of the class which did change my vocal range because i wasn't sure if i was doing it right and i went back into my shell just a little.
on Friday 14th september. we went into the pc lab to start working on ‘the red badge of courage’ however this time I was working with Anna-Maria and Elena. We all had to do the same task but find a way to tell the story much better. We did try to be creative but for me it was very difficult because I wasn’t sure of the emotional side of things, I understood the text I just didn’t understand how to push that through in my voice and be different from everyone else.
What I do need to work on is having that control when people are around me to not laugh or get self conscious about them judging me or having that feeling of their voice audio is better than mine.
My question will now be: how do voice audio artist remove them selves from overthinking the recording and mentally put them selves into being tha character?

My initial idea was to: start with children reading with a tutor and let that run for about 5-7 seconds then I start speaking to an acoustic. Towards the end my voice will fade out and children will the cheering.
However that wasn’t going to be possible with the amount of time that I had so, I used a relaxing and smooth instrumental and make sure that the tone and change in my voice was notice able to show that I was companionate and understand but still caring when the solution to the problem was brought to light.

Tuesday 18th September
To start off the day drama and a networking activity with the music and photography/ film students. The activity was about networking and we had to get into mixed groups to discuss it and take down notes of what we think social media is, the dangers of it and what we use it for. Also we then talked about how social media could affect our professional lives because if we are not careful what ever we right on social media could then come and haunt us in our future and maybe distort it. It was quite a fun activity because it got all of us out of our comfurt zone and it was a topic we could all relate to because we all have social media and we all are active on it some more than others.

We then went off with the music group and had a UCAS progress research discussion and presentation task that we all had to start to doing to halo us figure out our next step in what we want to do next with performing arts or anything else. With me I want to still go on with sisnging and performing so it was very helpful to try find universities that I could possibly go to to push me to my next step.
Wednesday 19th September
We worked on the anatomy of breathing and did some breathing except of our own to get use started and flowing. We then played the pirate ship game and counting how long we could hold our breaths for, if we can real a monologue using one breath and see how we could push that to make the monologue sound more dramatic and exaggerated, try reading all the stated in the US in one breath and see how much we could do. All these takes did push me as a singer aswell because it helped with my vocal ranger and how long I could really hold a note or two for. Also because of how difficult it started off it helped me understand that breathing is the most important part of any singer voice audio artis or even actor because it adds that extra 30% to the performcas that makes it just that much better and entertaining.

Why is breathing important in voice audio?

What skills could I use to better my breathing?

Tuesday 25th september.
We all worked on our personal statement because we were focused on careers. I did not start writing my personal statement because I wasn’t very sure how I wanted to structure it, mainly because I didn’t have much interest in going university. However, I did decide that I would look into it and I decided to try for drama school. Later on after my research I was able to start my personal statement but with the help of the help sheet just to get me started.
Wednesday 26th September
We started the day off with breathing exercises/ warm ups to get us started. We then set off to create our character voices where we had to find a monologue to do and do research to help find out what we want our character to be like. We had till 12 pm to get ready for our rehearsal.
I did have a hard time getting ready because I wasn’t sure of how I felt about my character and I was around a lot of people who were rehearsing aswell which did make me insecure. This teaches me that I should get myself in a separate space so I have space to get into my character and not focus on what ever one is doing.
When it was time to show the group everyone went before I did and they all did very well and it made me very nervous so, I then decided that I did not want to perform and I wanted a little time to get myself confident enough and be sure the monologue that had was what I actually wanted since I found it hard to get into character. when i came back on friday 28th i was much more ready to perform my monologue. i did to the best i thought was the best at that time. i could have done better: i should have slowed down a little bit more because it was difficult to get the real emotion out of my character. we were then given a schedual sheet to time our rehearsal for our short script. i was in a group with Rob and Tehearah.

Personal statement

My name is Modupe Christiana Haastrup, i am an extremely motivated, kind hearted, friendly hard-working student. I currently attend Croydon College on the course of Acting and Drama level 3. i am applying for drama and singing because i do feel that there is much more to learn. being in college i learn the ins and the outs of how they all link but i do not learn the international use of it. I want to keep growing into singing and drama because i know there is much more to really learn while physically still investing in being a professional singer. I've always had a drive for performing and being on a stage entertaining, i am a completely new person singing and acting. it rings me out of being my usual relaxed self. with singing and drama there is not a limit i can keep growing and building/ advancing my skill without being called or looked at like i'm 'crazy'.

Music and drama is a way that i can express myself and open up but most of all do what puts a smile on my face because i see that i am able to put a smile on other people's faces. Performing Arts helps me escape my hard times and put in all into my music. I attended BRITS school in Croydon, i took Theater, Dance and singing. It opened my up in so many ways i am now very much confident in my skills. I am able to work with people that i have never met a day in my life. At BRITS i was able to find my voice and use it in my stimulus. I am now confident in performing in front of new people and become someone that i am not so that i am able to tell a story by my facial expressions, body language, vocal projection and freeze frame.

I applied for X Factor and i did get quite far for someone that had no clue of where i was going to get with my ideas or if they would love me as the artist that i am.

i started and Instagram page so i can post as much as i can of me singing, after about 6 months of posting my followers went up and opportunities went up too. i got a chance to start working on a song with a well known afrobeat singer and i was asked to headline in a showcase for a group called S. Moving in August. I am suitable for this course because i have put myself up for challenges that pushes me to better myself, i did an end of year show with my group. i took on the challenge of playing more than 3 characters that required me to have different personalities. the challenge in that was switching between the characters as quick as i could without confusing the audience and keeping true to every character.

How could you avoid the effect of reading of ‘reading from a page’?
For me I was able to have a little set up: chairs and table for us to sit around because we’re meant to be friends. It put us a little more in character. ‘Imagine to be on stage but behind the camera’ that was the best was we were able to feel more part of our characters. Also knowing our script not word for word but be intune with it and the other character’s lines too.
It sounds cliche but making sure to go over our lines and put in the work and read over our lines as much as possible.

Are your responses to other characters truthfully played?
At first because we got the interpretation of the short script wrong my responses were completely off track. However, coming to an understanding of what my short script was really about I was able to respond much more appropriately because in the story we are all really friends but I’m using one of my friends characteristics to help another friend. My emotion and care for my friend remained the same and we were able to have some fun with it because I wasn’t being as harsh as I was when I didn’t understand what my short story was really about.

Do you think the story is clear enough for a listener, and what could you refine it?

I do not think the story is clear enough for a listening because even for me as a reader and for someone who is meant to be playing one of the characters I did not understand it completely because I got it wrong to start it. I think the hardest part for a listener to understand is that we are meant to be friends but because of how strong I come across when I get fed up with JJ, it would be much more difficult. To refine it I could have much more of a soft and genital voice so it’s easy to understand that we’re all meant to be friends.

Do you have a clear and consistent vocal style or what could you do to refine it?
I do not have a clear or consistent vocal style because I find it very hard to change my accent and stay strong with a different accent, I tend to slip into my usual accent.
To refine this I could listen to a ‘red neck’ accent on repeat before going to record because I would remember for a while till i finish recording.
