When I think about this concept and how it relates to my life the  strongest institutions that effect my life are family, college, and church. I get support from all of these places. So social institutions are created to help our society by sustaining the existing class structure, to provide for the economic and emotional maintenance of individuals, and socializing children for the future.

Every culture has their own particular way to greet each other. Culture shock is when a person travels to another culture and because that new culture is so different to them, they become disoriented. They would have to learn how adapt in that society and the sooner the better. Pretty much this is saying that the objective reality of a situation does not matter as much as a persons perception of what they believe to be happening is. If something happens to me and another person, and my perception is different than theirs, it doesn't make it any less real. Social control is used to enforce these norms and laws and that's why I chose the picture of my community's court house to represent this topic. When I think of deviance, what comes to my mind is the Labeling Theory. This labeling happens when members of a society ascribe deviant behavior to other members. The color of our skin is a little different, however, that doesn't change the fact that we're a family. Race is a social construct that people have used to differentiate others. Color blindness by virtue of keeping matters of discrimination and racism under wraps and actually can intensify racist thinking. The total number of people in the U.S. living in poverty is 55 million, including the 8 million who joined their ranks  due to the pandemic of corona virus since May 2020. After reading Herbert Gans article stating that the lower class serves as a system of measurement for the wealthy class it has opened my eyes. It doesn't have to do with the sex that they're biologically born into. These gender roles refer to a society’s concept of how men and women are perceived and how they should behave. These gender roles are based on norms, or standards, created by society. In our U.S. culture, male roles are usually associated with strength, aggression, and dominance, while female roles are usually associated with passivity, nurturing, and subordination. Workers have no means to live other than seeking jobs from the companies owned by these big corporations. The parents are expected to fulfil traditional gender and conjugal roles in the family unit and both help raise the children together. This notion of parents and children as family is called a nuclear family and is a recent invention of the Western World that has been sold as a form of "tradition. " It is a social construct that does not necessarily reflect the reality of family life for many people. For example, cultural capital in the education system tends to reinforce the dominant culture by structuring education in such a way that reflects the dominant culture and sets expectations based around this fact like having non-sense questions on the SAT's that have nothing to do with furthering one's education. If those who partake in such education are unfamiliar with the dominant culture they in turn may be set up for failure.
