      <description>The recipient of a bachelor&#39;s degree in applied mechanics engineering sciences from the University of California, San Diego, Mario X. Sierra started his career as an engineer at General Acoustics and soon after worked in a similar capacity at Fordham General Engineering Contractor. Mario Sierra joined the City of San Diego&#39;s Building Inspection Department as a plan review specialist in 1989 and served in varying capacities with the municipal government until 2019.

Among the other roles he had during this time, Mario Sierra served as resident engineer in the City&#39;s Engineering &amp; Development Department; deputy director of its Real Estate Assets Department; director of its Transportation Department; and assistant director of its Environmental Services Department. He most recently served five years as director of the latter department, through which he implemented the Zero Waste Plan and negotiated complex agreements such as Franchise Hauling Agreements, Consent Decree, and Department of Defense land lease engineering consultant services.

Mr. Sierra managed and maintained around 1,600 facilities during his tenure as the Deputy Director of Facilities Maintenance Division at the City of San Diego and was named the City of San Diego&#39;s Project Manager of the Year in 1995. Now residing in Bonita, CA, Mr. Sierra recently stepped down as the chairman of the board for the Chicano Federation of San Diego County. Mr Sierra served on the board for approximately 5 years, of which nearly 4 years he served as the chair of the board of directors. He spends his free time exercising, gardening, and completing home improvement projects.
