Oasis – Wonderwall

Wonderwall by Oasis was made in 1995 and is still huge today. In my opinion, Wonderwall is possibly one of the greatest songs to get people together because everyone knows it! At the time of 1995 there wasn’t a lot of computer technology at use, therefore editing wasn’t as good and the quality wasn’t all there. In their music video, it has the colour scheme of black and white. The majority of the music video is based on the artist singing, however it is also on other people and instruments such as people playing the drums and the guitar. There cinematography and editing is very simple and consist of long shots, medium close ups and close ups.

Coldplay – Viva la Vida

Viva la Vida by Coldplay was made in 2008 where editing had improved quite a bit, therefore there are more editing techniques such as a layer over the top of the music video of what looks like old manky wallpaper that’s gone wet and ruined. They have edited the movement of their bodies and reduced the motion which could imply that they, or something has broken their normality. The cinematography is fairly similar to Wonderwall in respects of the number of close ups, and medium shots as well as long shots. Again, the camera is usually on Chris Martin (singer) as well as instruments, such as the guitar and other relative objects e.g. the large bell.

Bastille – Good Grief

Good Grief by Bastille was made in 2016 where the editing and technology is up to date. CGI is now started to be incorporated where the teddy bear starts to set a light. This can allow the narrative to flow easier and to allow the audience to have a clearer understanding of the storyline. We can clearly identify that the HD quality of the cameras being used are so much more advanced, also the fact that drones are now accessible to get higher shots to allow people to see the setting through an establishing shot. In-comparison to the previous two videos from earlier years, the camera shots are more focussed on other people to form a greater a narrative as the Bastille isn’t really in the video as much as Chris Martin was in his. Again, the storyline isn’t simplistic, it is quite funky and has lots of random aspects that have synergy between each other.
