However in music it is better described as "a relative change moving against a relative constant"(Ratliff 127). I agreed with most of Ratliff's arguments, especially with the fact that we really need repetition in music. This doesn't mean the same tone the whole way through, but more as the repeating of a certain beat throughout the song. I also agree with what Ratliff says about the importance of repetition in that it is "a way to make you focus on all that is in fact non-repetitive"(Ratliff 188). Basically that this constant beat or repetition of lyrics helps us to recognize all the other musical elements present in the song. One of the examples of repetition in the playlist by Ratliff is Young Man Blues remixed by The Who.
