I can be related to checking all social media platforms before I even eat. I remember going to the JC and before class began everyone was informed about the current school shootings or how ICE was raiding homes. The teacher would come to class and let us know about it, but we knew before she did.

In this chapter , it stated " Stephen King was required to cut 150,000 words, nearly half its length, from the original edition of The Stand to make it more marketable." Why does someone who writes their thoughts down to entertain others have to cut their ideas in half for money? People who love to read are going to decide if they want to read a long book. I don't think publishers should decide that the book is too long and needs to be cut in half. A lot of books I've read leave me wanting more. But maybe it was unintentional, the author probably wanted to give us more. But the publisher wouldn't allow it.

Colonial newspapers were quite expensive, costing as much as six cents a day at a time when a worker might make eighty-five cents a day.

In 1894, Auguste-Marie and Louis-Jean Lumière, brothers from France, began utilizing Edison's ideas for motion pictures. They developed a portable movie camera they called a cinématographe that could also be used as a projector. The brothers also established the requirements for the format and the pace at which movies would be shot, which Edison eventually adopted. They opened their first theater on December 28, 1895, and ran short films depicting normal life in families, workplaces, and the streets. Back then there was no script or hollywood lights/movie sets. The very first movie that had some structure to it was " The Great Train Robbery." Movies went from being twenty fives minutes long to three hours long. From no sound, to having sound effects for everything you could think of.

The internet is described as a mass medium unlike any other, fusing interpersonal, group, and mass communications, it is a diverse set of independent networks, interlinked to give its users the appearance of a single, uniform network. We use the internet every second of our lives, whether it's to send an email or facetime to your loved ones. An article once stated that " The Gen Z check their phones before even eating breakfast." The internet will always be a part of our lives and will continue to evolve.

Nowadays everything you see, receive, and send will cost you data. Data is basically tokens you have in order to use the internet. Once those tokens are done you can no longer use the internet. You can add more " tokens" by contacting your provider, but it comes with a price. Every app we use on a daily basis consumes data and or wifi gbs. When you connect to the internet you don't use your personal data. But, that does expose you to unknown servers that can hack you. Back in the old days, the internet was not free at cafes or restaurants. Having convenient access to the internet equals foot traffic to your business.

I find it so strange that these people like the attention ( from a small amount of followers) , but not the money that they can potentially make from sponsors. A lot of big social media influencers are making six figures doing what niche internet micro celebrities are doing. I think the only difference is that nimc do social media for fun and because they love sharing their life with the world with no matter to monetary value.

The textbook describes advertising as " “any paid form of nonpersonal communication about an organization, product, service, or idea by an identified sponsor." From social media to television, we are surround by many commercials that contain advertising. Sometimes companies use celebrities, bright colors, health related facts, and benefits to get your attention. Their ultimate goal is to buy the product and spread the word.

Celebrities are frequently used in advertising to communicate their message. Advertisers have discovered that having a well-known personality support a product increase sales. Influencers were born off social marketing, they make a lot of money off doing everyday things. The textbook informed us that " In order to appear at the top of all sponsored posts, Instagram established a standard "Paid partnership" label in 2017. It not only provides audience members with more details, but it also grants the paid sponsor access to the influencer's reach and engagement statistics for the post." It's possible that the FTC may introduce new rules that call for social media influencers to disclose when they get compensation for endorsing goods. Some paid partnerships don't allow negative reviews, so this misleads consumers to believe the influencer actually likes the product.

A crisis is described as " an event perceived by the public as being damaging to the organization’s reputation or image. Businesses should never assume that issues will be kept quiet; instead, they should have a crisis management strategy in place. I have always said expect the unexpected. The Clinton-Lewinsky controversy was a sexual scandal between Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern, and Bill Clinton, the president of the United States. When Clinton was 49 and Lewinsky was 22, their sexual relationship started in 1995. In 1997, it came to an end after 18 months. The white house was not ready for the DNA proof Monica had up against Bill. This caused negative publicity and ultimately led to his impeachment.

Many topics that are talked about on the news are controlled by the government. The government hides a lot of things from the world. This is why a lot of people set us blogs or YouTube channels to voice the truth and their option . I remember that a journalist snuck into the Bohemian Grove in Guerneville and recorded/published everything that was happening behind closed doors. The government nor do news Chanels ever talk about this place.

The First Amendment (Amendment I) of the US Constitution forbids the government from enacting laws that restrict the free exercise of religion, regulate the establishment of religion, or restrict speech, the press, assembly rights, or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. It became one of the ten amendments that make up the Bill of Rights on December 15, 1791. This law really helped out in the #BlackLivesmatter and #MeToo movement. A lot of people are scared to speak out because of bad publicity or silly because they are scared. We should not hide because it is in our right to speak out. Even though we have right of speech, there is a twist to it. President John Adams signed, the Alien and Sedition Acts. These laws punished anyone who published “false, scandalous, or malicious writings against the government of the United States, or either house of the Congress of the United States, or the President of the United States” with substantial fines, jail time, or deportation."

China to say the least isn't the nicest country to their inhabitants. According to he article, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) employs a variety of strategies, including the widespread dissemination of state-produced content, intimidation and harassment of local media outlets, targeted disinformation campaigns, cyberbullying, and the use of fictitious social media profiles. As stated by Freedom House, its major objective is to persuade the public to support it, sometimes in order to secure its investments in the target countries. This is almost like a cat and mouse game, but instead of the cat chasing the mouse. The cat waits patiently and sets a trap so the mouse will fall for it. Without the cat getting it's hands dirty.
