He runs away from his home to the Catskill Mountains and has to get things to survive on his own. Sam makes cloths from deer hide, a bed, and hollows out a tree for a house. Sam trains a falcon to help him hunt for small game and becomes friends with a weasel and a raccoon. When ever there are people in the woods he has to hide so they don't turn him in. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to live of the land. By reading this you can learn to make a fire, what plants are safe to eat, and how to make a fishing lure. Sam knows he cant live alone in the woods because people have found him. It has to do with the book because it is no longer Sam's side of the mountain since people keep coming to visit Sam.
