My name is Ben Waltmon. I was born and raised in houston. I am a freshmen here at UT. My major is currently liberal arts undeclared. I am one of three boys in my family. I played football and baseball while I was in high school. I took a couple Spanish classes in previous years, but do not know the language that well. My mom is from San Antonio, and my dad is from Houston. They both went to UT, which is where they met. I have two dogs back at home. I am taking this class mostly for a ugs credit, but find it to be very interesting so far. I am very excited that I am taking this class now.

Universalism Part 1

In a very universal society like America, there are stop lights, and there are rules on when and when not to cross the street. At one point it is the cars turn to go, and at another point the cars must stop to allow for the pedestrians to cross. People will get angry or you could even get a J walking ticket for crossing the street at the wrong time, even if there is no traffic at all. This rule shows how the U.S. applies all rules to everyone, and treats everyone equally.

Theres something about drinking out of a glass that makes it more enjoyable apparently. There is not much information presented on the bottle, making it different from a lot of other soda pops. It is unique and is oriented to the Mexicans that have special tastes.

The first picture of Apple Inc. is a good example of individualism. In an individualism society like America, people have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and have better opportunities to be successful. Steve Jobs started Apple inside of his garage, and now Apple is one of the biggest companies in the country. However, individualism societies can disproportionally use up the worlds resources, such as oil and gas. The picture of the offshore oil rig is one of many rigs that drains up the earths oil, a non-renewable resource. Communitarianism is when everyone shares equally to resolve their problems. A pack of wolfs come together and pursue their prey as a pack, rather then going on their own, in order to be more successful. The last picture is of a food bank. A food bank gives the same amount of food to under privileged citizens to help emphasize that we are all humans and deserve tobe treated the same.

For my first example of specific was a picture of a chemistry lab. Here in the U.S., kids are required to take a chemistry class at some point during High School. In this class, you conduct many different labs where you collect data throughout the experiment. I found myself when I was in this type of class spending more time writing down details and numbers rather then actually paying attention to what was going on. My next picture was of an olympian doing gymnastics.I thought this was a good example of specific because in gymnastics, their score they get for their performance is based on how smooth they were. If you mess up one small movement, you could get points off. My first example for diffuse was a picture of a human cell. In order for this cell to fulfill his function, all of the parts inside of the cell have to be operating accordingly. My last picture for something that is diffuse is of a basketball game. In order for a sports organization to be successful, everyone needs to do their job. It starts with the general manager in getting good players, then it goes down to the head coach in developing the players skills, then to the assistant coaches, and then to the players themselves.

For my first example of achieved I chose Lebron James. Lebron is a professional basketball player who came from nothing, and grew up and has become one of the most popular athlete in the world. He grew up in Ohio, went through much adversity, and now plays in front of his home state for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Next for achieved is MLK. MLK was an American activist and leader of the civil rights movement. Blacks were extremely degraded during his lifetime, and he protested and argued for African American's rights. He went through a lot of troubles and was eventually assassinated, but is widely honored in today's society. For ascribed I chose Jeb bush because I believe his family has a version of ascribed in their family. Jeb is the son of former president George H. W. Bush, and brother to former president George W. Bush. His family is honored in America's society. He is a politician and was governor of Florida for many years. I believe he was set up for success partly because of his family's success. I also got a picture of a girl and a boy for ascribed because you are born as either one at birth, and are that biological identity throughout life.

My first example of something inner is Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey. The Rockets are a professional basketball team. The general manager, Daryl Morey in this case, is in charge of who the team should add and who they should drop or trade. Morey has to rely on his conscience act fast in his decision making in order to secure a dominant team. Next is shark tank, being inner. Shark tank is a TV show where entrepreneurs come in and present their business that they are trying to promote to a group of "sharks". The "sharks", or the investors, have a choice to hold a stake in any of these products that are being presented to them by people , so they, along with the entrepreneurs, have a master plan in mind and have to know what's right or wrong. For outer I got a picture of the band "The Eagles" at Joshua Tree, a camping area in California. The band went there one night in a search of a good name for their band. They surrounded themselves with nature and were anticipating a decision to be made. The last is Clifford Geertz. Geertz was a famous anthropologist in America. Anthropologists are good examples of people who are more outer. They spend most of their time observing and accepting things how they are.

My first example of sequential is homework. Homework can be very nerve racking because of the pressure to finish it on time. The pressure of homework can affect someone mentally due to this stress that it creates. Next is baseball. I played baseball in High School, and the thing I got taught the most was to play pitch by pitch. In other words, forget about the last play, whether it was good or bad, and focus on the next play, because the last play doesn't matter anymore because it is over. It is difficult to appreciate play in baseball for players because people move onto the next play quickly. My first example of synchronic is an assistant to an agent. Assistants spend all of their time answering phone calls and organizing stuff for the agent, and a lot of this is happening all at once, so the assistant must be good at multi-tasking. Next for synchronic is a thing called the blob. Blobs are usually located at summer camps. I say this because it was at the one I went to all my life. In order for the blob to work, you have to respond to the rhythm of others. In order to go higher, you have to jump at the exact time the one jumping onto it hits it.
