An interesting fact about me is that I discovered graphic design during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it quickly became a favorite hobby. While I've applied some of these skills in a professional setting, I primarily use them for personal projects, such as creating party invitations for my daughter or designing posters for my son's gaming club. I'm not sure if anyone has seen these guys on TikTok, but their energy is incredible! Many online have compared them to Michael Scott and Holly Flax, which, for me, makes them the perfect pair to learn from. During my time in Training and Development, I loved creating a fun and engaging environment to make what could otherwise be a rather mundane workplace experience both memorable and relatable. One of the first things I realized during a training course I attended was, 'Oh my gosh, I could do this better.' That realization sparked a passion in me to continually improve and innovate in my approach. As I work to develop my HR skills, I’m excited to bring that same creativity and enthusiasm to the field.

One of my unique hobbies is exploring the rich culinary history of the Middle Ages by searching for authentic recipes from that era. I enjoy recreating these historical dishes and experiencing the flavors of the past. The rose pictured here was 'foraged'—with a touch of humor—from my local grocery store to make a traditional rose pudding, a recipe that dates back to the early 15th century. It's a fascinating way to connect with history through food, bringing a taste of the medieval world into the present day

Learning as an adult

Returning to school as an adult was initially overwhelming. The demands of balancing work, family, and studies can feel daunting. However, as time has passed, I’ve gradually become more comfortable with the curriculum and have started to find my rhythm. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is overthinking, which often leads to hesitation and second-guessing. This semester, I’m focused on embracing a more confident approach by making executive decisions more swiftly when creating my projects. Learning as an adult has taught me the importance of trusting my instincts and being decisive, even when faced with uncertainty. It’s a continuous journey of growth, where each step forward builds both knowledge and self-assurance.

My 19-year-old is about to complete his associate's degree here, and I couldn’t be more proud. This milestone marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for him as he prepares to transfer to UTA in the spring. Although I’ll soon lose the special bond of being schoolmates, I’m thrilled to see him take this next step in his educational journey. He couldn’t be happier about the move, and it’s inspiring to witness his enthusiasm and determination as he moves closer to his goals.
