In January of 2020, COVID-19 cases stated popping up all around the world. Italy became one of the first European nations to enforce nation-wide lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19. As the situation worsened the healthcare systems around the world were overwhelmed.  Many countries closed their borders and enforced lockdowns. For example, I started attending school virtually from the beginning of 4th quarter of my 7th grade. I am in the 4th quarter of my 8th grade and I’m still doing online learning. While distance learning may seem scary for some people, it has not been that way for me. My teachers, especially, helped make virtual school very easy for me. Personally, I believe that online learning during this time is necessary to stay healthy. While it is sad to not be able to see my teachers and classmates in-person, this is the best way to reduce the spread of the virus. 

Another change since the beginning of the pandemic is the requirement to wear a face mask. Prior to the pandemic, face masks were only used by doctors, now everyone needs to wear them. Whenever I go to the temple, I need to wear a mask. I understand this is necessary, to stop the spread of COVID-19. It has been clear that the virus impacts everyone regardless of age. I definitely did not think that it would last as long as it has. I believe that if nations acted quickly COVID-19 wouldn’t have become a pandemic. The US government should have warned the people about COVID-19 when they knew about it. Also there was not much coordination between the states. Each state had their own set of rules and restrictions. Additionally, at the beginning of the pandemic the messages from the CDC and the federal government were often contradictory. Thankfully, once they delivered their message, most people started to wear masks, lockdowns were in place, and the infection rate started to decline. I know that the government acted a little too late, but once they did their actions took effect almost immediately. However, many people lost their job, almost entirely due to the lockdowns. I believe this could be a reason why the government did not want people to know about the virus. We must learn from the pandemic to ensure that this never happens again. For example, placing travel restrictions on the place of origin, informing people immediately and finally, enforcing ways to protect people before it is too late. The Governor explained that the COVID vaccines have been effective to contain the spread of the virus. Furthermore, the Governor was opposed to issuing vaccine passports. The cruise ship industry responded that such a decision will not help the reopening of cruise ships.  Lifting the restrictions does not really affect me because I have not been going to school or leaving my house all that much. His reason for doing it makes a lot of sense. However, I believe that Governor DeSantis should have lifted the restrictions a little later, when children are officially approved to take the vaccine. This decision hasn’t really changed anything with regards to my family.  As we all still try to stay inside the house as much as possible. We still wear masks whenever we go outside and avoid crowded places. While we may have been lucky to never have a serious case, you never know when it might come to you. So, we will continue to stay at home for as much as possible until most Americans are vaccinated. And we most certainly, will not travel on a plane until we feel it is safe and necessary to do so.

A: I used to be able to go to work and get some sort of physical activity done prior to the pandemic. However, now I work from home and I don’t usually go outside, so I don’t really have any physical activity these days.
Q: What are you looking forward to after the pandemic?
A: I want to visit my brother, who lives in Maryland. I also want to go back to office.
Q: How often do you see other people, outside your home?
A: Right now, I don’t really see anyone outside of the house. Sometimes, I see the kids playing outside.
Q: How are you spending your holidays/long weekends?
A: I cook on the holidays. I also clean. And also try to watch the tv and relax at home.

Q: How did your life change during the pandemic, when compared to before? 
A: Before the pandemic started, I could go to the gym without any fear. For example, I could go to store to buy groceries every week. However, now I only go to the supermarket once per month. For work, I no longer go to office, even though it’s only one mile away from my house. 
Q: What are you looking forward to after the pandemic? 
A: Get more physical activity done. I would like to go to a restaurant. I would, at least, like to get food from a restaurant. I would also like to go to a public park, to relax. 
Q: How often do you see other people, outside your home?
A: I was never able to see people outside of the house. I was only able to come to Florida, once during Christmas, to see my nephew.
Q: How are you spending your holidays/long weekends?
A: I usually just watch something on the television, cook good food, and try to get good rest.
