  • Romanticism is an an artistic movement that was born in Europe. It was especially  famous in Germany and England.
  • The publication of Lyrical Ballads in 1798 by William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Colleridge marks the beginning of the English Romantic movement
  • It is heavily influenced by the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution.

    A Romantic hero, also known as Byronic hero (does it ring a bell?) is a kind of character that has the following characteristics:

    • Outcasts: They stand against the standards set by society and they usually isolate themselves because  the rest of the world rejects them.
    • Self-serving: They don't want to salve the world, they want to get something for them.
    • Obsessive
    • Melancholic
    • They usually show regret for their actions. They usually want to redeem themselves.
    • Disillusioned
