an invention. Many inventions change people’s lives. And many inventions that are an important part of our lives today didn’t exist in the past. One example of this is the invention of the television,
by John Baird. He was a Scottish engineer and he
invented the television in 1925. As a young man, John moved to London where he was
poor and worked in a boring job. But John was brilliant at electrical engineering and his dream was to make a television. John worked on his
idea in his free time and did many different experiments using an old chest, a hat box, a
pair of scissors, some knitting needles, some bicycle lights and a lot of glue! After many attempts, John finally succeeded in making the world’s first television, which he demonstrated for the first time to a group of happy people in London in 1926."
