Stroop Effect - the action of automatic processing versus conscious visual control.
automatic processing- to perform a task with little conscious awareness or mental effort
controlled processing- to perform a task with conscious and alert awareness
selective attention- paying attention to one stimulus instead of another
congruent_ matching the same
Incogruent- not matching, interference
theory- the reason it is much easier to read the words how they are written rather than the the colour of the ink is because it is a natural instinct. A person has been reading all there life so they have good practice at ( automatic processing) Where as a person doesn't say the colour of the ink of a word daily. This task requires selective attention and which is why it is a difficult task to Incongruent words
Research Question
when completing tasks does automatic processing produce a Faster completion time than controlled processing?
