I think it is definitely important! The first thing that comes to mind for me is the amount of children that are afraid of the dental office. You need to learn to be able to talk to these children and make them feel comfortable, happy and calm every time they step into the office. And not just children, adults too! We are also there to educate, so we have to learn to speak to whomever we are with and help them understand while making them feel comfortable and assured. This is not a desk job, hygienists are constantly interacting, so learning how to do so and creating a welcoming environment is definitely important.

Dental hygienists work with the public everyday and must know how to effectively communicate with them. They must also be able to communicate with their patients in order to obtain an accurate medical history, which can be very important if a client has illnesses that would alter treatment. The hygienist must be able to communicate and provide comfort to clients who are fearful of treatment. Lastly, hygienists must also be able to communicate effectively with other members of the dental team, to have an organized and well working office.

Developing good communication skills are very important to have in life. Dental hygienists are constantly interacting with the public making communication skills for them crucial. They need to make their patients feel as comfortable as possible physically and mentally. Physically might not always be the easiest but you can make them feel comfortable mentally by communication. Communication is not only verbal. A non verbal way of communicating is body language. You do not want to look like you are disgusted with what you are seeing in their mouth. If you develop good communication skills it will help you immensely in your role as a DH.

I believe communication is highly essential in order to be a successful Dental Hygienist. Working with not only the public but with team members, you will need to be able to communicate well with each other. This will really make the individual feel comfortable and happy to come back as well. I do believe that is also extremely important to know how to be able to communicate with kids, as we all know sometimes children really don't enjoy going to dental appointments. When i was a child, I was extremely scared and my Hygienist knew how to completely calm not only me down but other children too. Therefore, knowing how to communicate with patients to make them feel safe and comfortable and reassuring a positive outlook, is extremely important.

Communication is an essential attribute of being a Dental Hygienist both in clinic and outside of practice. In the clinic, hygienists are responsible for communicating important information to all staff including dentists, assistants and admin as well as patients. Clear communication of past and present health records, ongoing scheduling and delegation of tasks such as sterilization of materials all pose as crucial examples to an efficient and safe practice. Outside of the practical aspect of a clinic, Dental Hygienists are educators. Educators need the skill set to convey important information in a way that is comprehensible to people of all walks of life, including children. That being said, being able to educate and tailor the way the education is being conveyed to the recipient is a crucial aspect of communication.

I believe communication skills are extremely important for the profession of Dental Hygiene.
We need the skills so we can properly communicate with our co-workers. When the dentists comes in for the check up with our patients we need to properly share with them what we seen while we were working on the patient. We need it because sometimes the patients will come in and see a different hygienist every time, we need to chart everything clearly so the next hygienist understands what we discussed and what we noticed about the patients oral health.
We also needs these skills to communicate with the patients who come in. We need to make them feel comfortable and understand why their oral heath is so important, things they can work on and things to continue doing. Communication skills is key while dealing with kids at the dentist, most kids hate everything about it so making them comfortable and reassuring them, explaining everything we are doing in a manner they will understand makes them feel better. Communication skills is something we most defiantly need as a Dental Hygienist, we need to be able to communicate with every age group.

Yes, definitely! A Dental Hygienist's job involves many aspects of communication. Clear communication with patients is a big one since you need to ask questions or clarify about their medical history, explain how to have proper oral hygiene and explain the procedures that will take place. Communicating through writing and technology is also part of the job since clear note taking about what was done on the client and charting need to be detailed and clear. When patients are nervous, knowing how to deal with them is beneficial. Communication is also necessary with the rest of the Dental Team that work in conjunction with the Hygienist

As a hygienist you are required to talk to several different people throughout the day; the dentist, the office staff (to book appointments) the clients (medical history; oral health education, find out concerns about their teeth). It’s especially important when dealing with pediatric clients or first time clients or clients with extreme anxiety about going to the dentist.

Communication to a Dental Hygienist is important to their success and plays a big role in their daily work. Communication is involved not only in the aspect of speaking with a client but also in learning about them and making them feel comfortable while providing oral healthcare. A Dental Hygienist needs communication to greet their client, to make them feel welcome in the environment, to learn their health history and any concerns they have, and to learn about their background to implement a care plan specific to their needs and lifestyle. Communication is also important in educating a client on their health and communicating procedures they undergo and to understand how to take care of themselves based on the routines and suggestions a dental hygienist makes. Being able to communicate appropriately is also crucial when a client is facing an oral health problem and it becomes to dental hygienists responsibility to highlight the issue and make the client aware in a way that makes them comfortable. Outside of the clinician-client relationship, communication is important when dealing with other professionals in the place of work, whether it is a dentist, another dental hygienist or anyone contributing to the care of the client. Communication also reflects in the dental hygienist's use of charts and reports and making everything clear to facilitate in the upkeep of their file and providing further care. Ultimately, communication is a key skill to have and for Dental Hygienists it is very important in various aspects of their profession and dealing with clients or fellow colleagues.

I feel that communication is one of, or the most important aspect in regards to begin a hygienist. I think this way because in order to successfully succeed in this occupation, communication skills are needed. In order for the hygienist to be a clinician, an educator, an administrator, Ext, communication must be established. Part of a hygienists job is to educate their clients on the importance of oral health. To do this, communication skills must be present in order to effectively teach the patients. If the hygienist has poor communication skills their job of being an educator will not be as effective for the patient. Communication skills are also needed to ensure that the hygienists patients feel comfortable and well-taken care of. If a patient has a question the hygienist should be able to answer the question thoroughly and provide assurance for the patient. Lastly, communication skills are needed in order for the hygienist to communicate well with his/her co-workers and the dentist. This includes, explaining their findings, or questions they may have.
