Chapter 10- Teaching Word Choice Within Writing Process

Points of Discussion: Strategies
Importance of students having personal dictionaries to log new words that they come encounter with.

Importance of expressing meaning as well as weight of words, to create imagery, voice, etc throughout writing.

Importance of giving "tired" words a break, and using this as an opportunity to broaden students vocabulary, to further access when writing.

Importance of using senses through writing to create imagery, voice, and truly painting a picture to the reader.

Discussion Questions:
3. Vocabulary lists accomodate for a certain type of learner but not for all types of learners. Vocabulary lists are not necessary but possibly more desirable for certain types of learners, while it may hinder learning for other students. Students could construct their own word wall to adapt the traditional approach and make it more spontaneous. Since the students are creating the word wall, they may find it more meaningful and relatable.

6. The Relatives Game book had a lot of sensory imagery used where the reader can picture the text in their heads.
