There are two major conflicts that Matilda is facing. First of all, Matilda really enjoys learning, and wants to learn as much as she can. But her parents don't believe that learning will do her any good in life, so they don't support her at all. Actually, they don't even care about her. And second, Matilda's teacher noticed that Matilda had a lot of knowledge already. So, she wanted Matilda to get some higher level education. But Mrs. Trunchbull won't let Matilda go to a higher class. These two conflicts are not stopping Matilda from learning more, but they could cause some trouble in the future.

I'm not exactly sure what Matilda's goal is. I think her goal is to make her parents care about and notice her more. Well, at least that's what I interpret from all the punishments she had done on her parents. I think that another one of Matilda's goals is to learn as much as she can. She wouldn't be learning on her own if she weren't interested in it. And lastly, I think her goal is to stop Mrs. Trunchbull from doing those horrifying things to the kids.

First of all, I think that since the parents notice and like Matilda's brother more, she was motivated to get the attention she deserves. Also, I highly think that the librarian and Mrs. Honey both motivated Matilda to learn things on her own. They both were surprised at her knowledge, and they both were a great help in her learning. And lastly, I think that seeing all those terrifying things Mrs. Trunchbull did, motivated Matilda to stop her. I think that seeing the girl thrown by the hair, and the boy that was forced to eat the whole cake, really got Matilda motivated the most.
