Armed Forces trained in Florida because the weather was warm and there was an abundance of flat land to build bases and airfields.  Florida’s long coastline also made it an ideal place to build naval bases and shipyards. 

There were 172 military bases in Florida, the largest being Camp Blanding.  There were up to 40 airfields in Florida being used.

The NAACP fought segregation by starting what was called the “Double V” campaign during WWII.  The two “Vs” stood for victory against dictators overseas and victory against racism at home.  The NAACP wanted to bring attention to segregation in hopes of ending it.  They published articles, photos, and drawings in newspapers to promote the campaign.  The NAACP encouraged civil disobedience.
