This semester, I was able to read the novel, "Educated" by Tara Westover. This novel depicts a very interesting, heart breaking, and worth reading life story that Tara Westover, the author had experienced being raised up in a religious Mormon family of five boys, two girls and her parents. Tara and her family lived on a farm isolated from society on a mountain top in Idaho called Buck’s Peak. Despite all the challenges that she had faced with her family and as an individual, she persevered, got into Brigham Young University, and later graduated coming back to only help her family.

Academic Reading "“A field experiment on community policing and police legitimacy”

In America, there is a love and hate relationship for the police. This academic research article educates about how because there has been police violence against citizens, it tests the legitimacy of policing. Though police officers are vital in responding to crimes throughout cities in America over the years, more and more tension has risen against law enforcement and the public. This having to be because there are news reports of unarmed citizens dying in the custody of police officers, upsetting many who view this as morally wrong. An example is Michael Brown was shot and killed by police in Ferguson. This research article conducted home visits by police officers to see how successful the visits were and the kind of treatment they would receive. So far “of the 1,007 individuals in the treatment group, 412 were successful”. There are three figures that show the effect of community policing treatment. These figures explain about the questions underlying the performance, legitimacy, cooperation, and compliance measures furthermore also include the ethnicities that are involved with the research. Although police legitimacy can be acknowledged as a necessary way for lowering crimes and increasing public safety, the lack of careful evaluations of well-defined strategies has left a majority of law enforcement professionals skeptical of their value.
