Perhaps it was your daily routine, but once I saw you, when you entered the institute in the morning, take off your slippers, briefly fold your hands to the idol of Goddess Saraswathi at the foot of the stairs, and then proceed to your chamber. 

I remember it struck me as being a very powerful visual message set by the director of an educational and research institution, that,yes, you need the faculty, the infrastructure and everything, but at the level of the individual student or researcher who is seeking to learn, to understand, you also need the grace of the Goddess of Learning.

Sadagopan during the orientation session in the Main Class Room left me
amazed. I very well remember he was traveling to India from some
international place. He landed in Bangalore around 4 or 5 AM and he was
there for addressing the new batch at 9 AM. His first impression was
spectacular on many of us. When your mentor is so hard working, it sets the
right standards for the subordinates as well. At numerous times, during my
time at IIIT-Bangalore I was flabbergasted by the punctuality, dedication, and
hard-work of Prof. Sadagopan. It has been 10 years since I graduated, I
clearly remember his mantra - “To be successful, one should always ‘work’
and ‘network’” I made this as my motto and that has earned a few amazing
connections of my field. He always made sure that personal well-being is
equally important with the professional success and that is why he always
checked on students, visited them in the hostels, and above all was part of
all celebrations on the campus. Even after a decade, you remember your
students and it is not just remembrance you make sure that you are in touch
with most of us. Even after being busy for most of his day, no email goes
unanswered from his Inbox. Very few people possess such a quality and I feel
truly blessed to be a student of such great soul. He is such an amazing
personality. If could become even 1% of what he has achieved and what he
did for his students, I would be content.
On this important day, I want to whole heartedly thank you, Prof. Sadagopan,
for being there for us. May you always stay happy and healthy.
